Need to consolidate Amplifiers
[edit]There are problems in Amplifier land. Many people make the mistake of thinking that Electrical Amplifiers are the only type of amplifier where as they are only the most popular type. Even this disambiguation page makes that mistake in the introductory sentence.
Below are two interwiki language link wikidata lists that are mostly about electronic amplifiers but probably not exclusively. The problem is that Amplifier should be a list/category/disambiguation/toplevel page that has a section for Electrical Amplifier

- Would be this proposal solve the problem?
- Qamp = NEW entity for (generic) amplifiers
- Add electronic amplifier (Q211554) subclass of (P279) Qamp
- Keep electronic amplifier (Q211554) subclass of (P279) electronic circuit (Q1815901)
- Add amplifier (Q27094) subclass of (P279) Qamp
- Remove amplifier (Q27094) subclass of (P279) electronic amplifier (Q211554)
- Add optical amplifier (Q1359305) subclass of (P279) Qamp
- Remove optical amplifier (Q1359305) subclass of (P279) electronic amplifier (Q211554)
- Then these should be added:

- I found some other existing entities that represent other types of amplifiers and need to find their place somewhere in this classification, they are
- power amplifier (Q1341000) based on the linked German Wikipedia page (translation) it looks like it could represent the generic amplifier, but I'm not sure
- Power amplifiers (Q4990406): based on the linked Spanish Wikipedia page (translation) it looks like it represents electronic power amplifiers (I think it should be subclass of (P279) amplifier (Q27094))
- amplifier (Q347110): this represents a disambiguation page for amplifiers and is already fine
- Also, I found an existing non-linked Italian Wikipedia page which should be linked to the new generic amplifier entity (Qamp). Danysan1 (talk) 11:56, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- I have solved it creating amplifier (Q115281453), the new amplifier class network can be found in https://w.wiki/5zKk . Danysan1 (talk) 10:56, 19 November 2022 (UTC)

Subclass vs Part
[edit]Shouldn't this entity be "subclass of (P279) electronic amplifier (Q211554)" instead of "part of (P361) electronic amplifier (Q211554)"? I mean, all audio amplifiers are by definition also amplifiers. Danysan1 (talk) 08:44, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- I have solved this adding the statement "amplifier (Q27094) subclass of (P279) amplifier (Q115281453)". Danysan1 (talk) 10:58, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
- I'm afraid that right now it's unimportant because the subject has no definite meaning. The interwikis are a mess. The article subjects range from power amplifiers as standalone units, lacking preamp functionality, in :de to electronic amplifiers in general in :ro. It's four or five different scopes that shouldn't be lumped together. We need a hero to sort out the mess - which invariably also means renaming various wikipedia articles to match their intended scopes (i.e. :ru article is about audio power amplifiers but it's name is audio frequency amplifier which also includes all sorts of small-signal circuitry). Perhaps the :de model with separate articles for each different scope is the better model, but then it's only one of many wikis. Retired electrician (talk) 21:41, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
