Wikidata:Eighth Birthday/India/Datathon/India-specific Wikidata Properties
India-specific Wikidata Properties is a data-thon organised in association with the Wikipedia's Eighth Birthday celebration to bring the project members together, engage newcomers to Wikidata. The primary objective of this "data-thon" is add / improve the usage of Wikidata Properties related to India in items. We hope to encourage participation from other Wikidata communities.
A Wikidata Property (also attribute) describes the data value of a statement. Currently there are 76 India-specific Wikidata Properties. Most of them are used in Wikidata to form a statement in Wikidata. But there are some properties which are used less in numbers in the statements. So this data-thon is organised to improve the usage of those properties in items and improve the structured data in Wikidata.

Rules
[edit]- Any user who has registered and have Wikidata account can participate in this event. You can add your name in the #Participants section below and start contributing.
- For each of the properties listed below in the table, add properties along with the values to various items. Please try to verify twice that the values are correct by going through the website and checking if they are correct.
- Go to respective Property page and it's talk page that you are going to work. You can see examples of properties added and overall information related to that property, and what all values can be added (for item data types) and so on details.
- Property name and id can be seen in the below table. Prior to the start of the data-thon the tables will be updated with the current usage count. You can go through the properties to know more about those properties. You can also add missing labels and description in your native language if it is missing.
- The table shows the current usage count in number and the link to the query which lists all the items which have the property added along with the values.
- There are some properties whose values can be searched and added. For those properties a link to source page/website is given.
- You can use the link (TABernacle if available) below at column 'add missing values' to add values to those properties to missing items. You could also add values for those properties using other Wikidata tools or manually searching in Wikidata.
- For some properties the number of records in the source is fixed. You are welcome to mark a task as done by adding
{{Done}}next to the 'current uses' if the addition of the values are complete for those property. If you are picking up a task you can add{{Doing}}-~~~~in the column link to notify others that you are working on it.
- You can also propose new India-specific properties in the proposal page and can add links to those pages here.
Tasks
[edit]There are a number of India-related properties which are underused. Let's use them in Wikidata. Only properties with the current usage less than 1000 is tabulated below.[1]
Participants can choose interested tasks added below to improve the usage of India related properties and can build and update queries below and work on those.
Unlike items the properties in Wikidata can only be created after it gets approval by the Wikidata community. So you are also invited to suggest missing India-specific properties. For more details visit Wikidata properties.
You can work any of the following properties by adding them in the matching item and pairing these properties with at least one unique value available in the source website/page. By adding these pair you have formed a new statement for that item. (Statements can also be expanded with optional qualifiers and references.)

Outcome
[edit]Usage of 12 different properties was improved during this datathon out of this usage of one property was 100% completed.
