[edit]

Abandonware France (Q16525048) is a website in French about retrogaming (initially created as Lost Treasures Fr), and a major player in video game preservation in France (see them here invited in a symposium at the Bibliothèque nationale de France (Q193563)). Their database tracks, of course, games, 300+ already matched in Mix’n’match Jean-Fred (talk) 22:12, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

*  Oppose Piracy site. How in the world can a game that's been on Steam for literally 20 years be considered "abandonware" by any stretch of the imagination??!--Trade (talk) 01:40, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This site does not consider the affected game to be abandonware, ID has the ce jeux n'est pas abandonware tag line. Even if it were a piracy site, I don't see a problem, since we do have a piracy-related property Old-Games.RU ID (P10394), it has been approved and marked as Wikidata property for an identifier that does not imply notability (Q62589320). Regards Kirilloparma (talk) 05:30, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Trade: I think this is a fair concern. This is actually the reason why I held off for so long from proposing this property. What decided me was to see that the website had institutional recognition from a deeply respected and law-abiding actor like the French National Library − if they are fine with it, then I think so should we. As Lewis and Kirilloparma pointed out, Blue-Shift (which I assume is the one you had in mind) is **not** available for download, and overall the site has a strong policy of not hosting games. I really wish the website had kept its Lost Treasures Fr moniker instead of splashing 'Abandonware' in its URL, because there is really more to it than that. Abandonware France (Q16525048) is also a library, indexing video game magazines, and also the awards they conferred. (This is probably the weakest ID per the limited number of entries, but we have few identifiers for awards, so I think it’s still worth it). Jean-Fred (talk) 22:12, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

[edit]

  1. Abandonware-France book ID has so far received my only vote and cannot yet be created (see WD:PCC, criterion #3)
  2. Abandonware-France video game ID still needs to be discussed because of some objections raised.
