Motivation
[edit]The Basisklassifikation (Basisklassifikation (Q29938469)) is a universal library classification used in German libraries. It consists of 2.139 classes so the full mapping is expected to consist of roughly 3.000 statements (some classes may have no direct correspondence in Wikidata but a combination of multiple Wikidata items). We would like to create the mappings for library applications. For instance 33.81 is nuclear fusion (Q13082) so books about nuclear fusion can be searched via https://gso.gbv.de/DB=2.1/CMD?ACT=SRCHA&IKT=1016&SRT=YOP&TRM=BKL%20%2233.81%22. See https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benutzerin:JakobVoss/Basisklassifikation for an incomplete set of mappings between BK and Wikipedia to start with. -- JakobVoss (talk) 12:15, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

- Support There should be also some mappings between deWiki-Categories and BK (e.g. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kategorie:Geod%C3%A4tisches_Instrument is BK 38.73) Mfchris84 (talk) 13:12, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- @JakobVoss: We've generally been distinguishing "classifications" from "identifiers" due to the lack of one-to-one relations - however I'm assuming here that the intent is to mostly do a one-to-one mapping to the corresponding concept here in wikidata, rather than to items (like books) that would be classified under that concept? I think we might want to change the label here then to avoid confusion - maybe "Basisklassifikation ID"? ArthurPSmith (talk) 18:39, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- it's 1-to-1 in most cases and n-to-1 for some cases and small values of n. The property is not intended for bibliographic items. Exceptions include these BK classes about selected publications:
- 11.30 is Bible (Q1845)
- 11.38 is Old Testament (Q19786)
- 11.44 is New Testament (Q18813)
- 11.81 is Qur’an (Q428)
- Is it possible to express this as constraint? I don't know what label could avoid confusion. - JakobVoss (talk) 19:45, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- Sorry for circumstances but what are the reasons to avoid categorical to use the BK also as what it is, as property for bibliographuc items? DDC and RVK are also used as prop. in bibliographic records. --Mfchris84 (talk) 21:45, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- BK is very broad so corresponding Wikidata items exist. Better use main subject (P921) on works and link Wikidata items to BK. -- JakobVoss (talk) 07:43, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
