Motivation
[edit]Separate current pictures of things, from their old pictures, collect sepia photos, black-and-white photos, etc. – The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bouzinac (talk • contribs) at 16:11, 25 November 2023 (UTC).
Discussion
[edit]- Wouldn't it be better to do this as a qualifier than as its own property? MartinPoulter (talk) 17:48, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
- At what point does a "current/modern" photo become an "old" photo? DS (talk) 14:14, 29 November 2023 (UTC)
- It is obvious for me that a picture of something taken in 1950 has not the same meaning than the picture of same thing taken in 2023. It is sometimes encyclopedic to see how things have changed in the curse of time. But I agree to say a picture from 2022 does not mean it is old compared to the 2023 picture unless something significant has changed the appearance of the thing (painting, reconstruction, catastrophe, etc). - Oppose it's unclear what the point of the old images is supposed to be. If someone wants to see more images, they can go to Commons. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 10:35, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, I don't get your point since there are 53 image-related properties https://w.wiki/8LgX . Commons is an image library, yes, but it is an unstructured image library (for a same topic, you might see tons of pictures inside the same page without "selection" per sub-topic : one night image, one aerial image, etc because Wikidata requires item to be reasonably picking one (or sometimes two) images in the property) Bouzinac 💬●✒️●💛 12:11, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose Users are more likely to want multiple old images if they are interested in it, that's what Wikimedia Commons is supposed to do. Wikimedia Commons is becoming structured as well. Midleading (talk) 04:33, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
