Getting Started

1. Create a Wikidata username if you do not yet have one
2. Add your name to Participants of Wikidata:WikiProject_New_York_Public_Library
   1. Click [+] Add yourself to the list
   2. Add * ~~~~ at the bottom of the text box and click Publish changes
3. Create or update your Wikidata user page
   1. Add a disclosure of paid editing
4. Install gadgets in your Preferences
5. Add user scripts to your common.js

Recommended gadgets

• Merge: This script adds a tool for merging items
• labelLister: Show and edit labels, descriptions and aliases from other languages
• moveClaim: A tool to move or copy a statement from one entity to another
• Descriptions: Show the description of items and properties when hovering them
• DuplicateReferences: Adds a link to copy references and add them to other statements on the same item
• SearchAll: Search in the other namespaces of Wikidata too
• Recoin: a script that extends Wikidata entity pages with information about the relative completeness of the information
• relateditems: Adds a button to the bottom of item pages to display inverse statements

Recommended user scripts

You can add user scripts to your common.js to enhance the look and features of Wikidata and make editing faster and more productive

• copy-qid: Copy QID to clipboard
• UseAsRef: Allows you to add references to statements using external IDs as sources
• identifierInput: When adding an identifier property it tries to strip that identifier out of the full URL
• moreIdentifiers: Allows you to add authority control IDs from VIAF ID (P214) with few edits
• mixnmatch_gadget: Allows you to make Mix'n'match matches from Wikidata
