Background

Krystalak is said to be a villainous entity. Born from crystals made of the meteor shower that struck Earth, he belongs to the Mutant faction, one of the monster factions in the storyline of Godzilla: Unleashed, and because of this he desires power above all else. Due to the crystals being present on Earth he draws power from them and as long as he stays on Earth he is the most powerful creature alive. He fires shards of crystal as an attack and can even overload his heart to damage the surrounding area but the more he uses this ability, the more destruction the overloading will cause on the immediate area he is in. Although he didn't appear in a Godzilla film, his part in the game still worked out.

Powers and abilities

Krystalak can shoot a violet energy beam from his mouth, and he can overload his heart causing extreme damage, though, he may be killed in the process. Krystalak is also very agile and fast and he is also very resistant to most energy weapons. He can fire crystal shards from his tail and is also able to fire crystal shards from his mouth. When he has power surge he's near invincible.

Bodily movement

Krystalak as he is seen in the new videos posted on the net for Unleashed shows a massive difference in body from other Kaiju. Krystalak, like Baragon and Anguirus in the previous games, seems to fight and walk bipedaly but when running seems to go on all fours. He is massively athletic, able to front flip over kaiju. Additionally, Krystalak is the first video game kaiju to be a digitigrade.

Role in Unleashed

Ever since Krystalak was created during the making of Godzilla: Unleashed, he was intended to be a major enemy and the primary antagonist of the game's story. Created by the crystals sent to Earth by Space Godzilla, Krystalak is an unexpected by-product of the alien energies from the crater in New York. Like Obsidius it is not known if Krystalak died or not in the true story though he probly did.

Criticism

Many fans were initially upset with Pipeworks for pushing to include the original kaiju. Fans argued that the selection from the IGN poll were "unimaginative" and felt that their inclusion would require time and energy by the game developers that should otherwise be spent on existing Toho kaiju. Other fans argue that an original monster will not hurt the series seeing as Gigan, Megalon, Hedorah and many other kaiju were all original at some point in their filmography, and that the Godzilla series could benefit from new monsters. Nevertheless, Producer Shelby Willis and other Atari/Pipeworks representatives were quick to reassure fans that plenty of Toho monsters would make the cut into the final game and that the original kaiju were not "pushing out" the classics.
