Usage

This template formats IPA transcriptions and links them to Portuguese phonology. The transcription should match the conventions of that key; for narrower dialect transcriptions, use {{IPA-all}}, which links to a more complete IPA key.

The first cell in the template is for the transcription, and a second optional cell is a switch that controls the lede. With no second value, the lede Portuguese pronunciation: appears:

{{IPA-pt|bo|pron}} → pronounced [bo]
{{IPA-pt|bo|lang}} → Portuguese: [bo]
{{IPA-pt|bo|eu}} → European Portuguese: [bo]
{{IPA-pt|bo|br}} → Brazilian Portuguese: [bo]
{{IPA-pt|bo|IPA}} → IPA: [bo]
{{IPA-pt|bo|}} → [bo]

Any of these may be combined with a sound file in an optional third cell:

{{IPA-pt|bo|IPA|Pt-br-bo.ogg}} → IPA: [bo] ( listen)

For the default lede, however, a placeholder such as ‹-› is required in the second cell:

Template:IPA-pt is deprecated, and is preserved only for historical reasons. Please use {{IPA|pt|...}} instead.
