Dara is a short film in the black comedy/slasher genre. Written and directed by Kimo Stamboel and Timo Tjahjanto, this film was well-reviewed by movie critics when shown at a number of film festivals. The film was released with other short horror films in a horror compilation, Takut: Faces of Fear in 2009. A longer version of this film, Rumah Dara (also known as Macabre in English), by the same directors, was released in 2009 (In Indonesia released widely on 2010. The film stars Shareefa Daanish in the title role of Dara. The actors, Mike Lucock, Dendy Subangil, and Ruli Lubis who starred this film, reprise their appearance in Rumah Dara with different character, such as, actor Ruli Lubis who in this film acts as victim, but in Rumah Dara he acts as villain.

Plot

Film begins at restaurant which owned by a beautiful and perfect woman named Dara. That night, Dara invites a man named Adjie to dinner with her on next night in Dara's house. Then, after black fades, Adjie shown again stand-bounded by chain in a room which in there, many blood splatter everywhere. He tries to set free, but, Dara, comes to the room and test the quality of Adjie, as her test, she bites Adjie's stomach. Attempt to kill Adjie, Dara with her chainsaw starts to slash him off. Suddenly, Adjie saved by the bell, Dara, who her chainsaw is broken, leave the room which a corner room in Dara's big house, and open the door.

Another man, a bald-headed named Eko comes to the house, want to meet Dara. Eko welcomed to the dinner table for eat, while Dara, leave him for a second, goes to a room and dumped Eko's flower bouquet to a bed in there, she cross Eko's name in next day date, and places the name in the present night with Adjie's name. From this activity, we know that Dara is a cannibal who invites men secretly and when in her house, she kills them. And Dara scheduling her victims each night, for only reason, have fresh meat everyday. And the men who here now, will be slashed like Dara's past victim.

In dinner, after Dara can shut Adjie's mouth and turn on classic music loudly, Dara visited by a quiet-fat man named Rama who joins with Dara and Eko for dinner, and the conversation in there headed by Eko who tells Rama about exercising for a sixpack. While they in dinner table, Adjie can breaks the chain and set himself free from the room. Knows that Adjie loose, Dara takes her crossbow (who placed secretly under dinner table) and shot Eko's chest, then slits his throat with machete. Then, she slashed Rama's shoulder and in front door, Rama who trails himself there, decapitated by Dara with same machete to slash his shoulders.

Adjie back to the gory room and hides there from Dara. Dara, who can finds Adjie, stabbed in her hand by Adjie. Then Adjie who doesn't give a second to her, runs to front door, opened it, and goes to his car. When he want to close his car door, Dara with her turned-on chainsaw breaks it and slaughter Adjie with it, leaving no survivor this night.

The scene changes to Dara's restaurant, she takes some meat from refrigerator, and revealed that the meat those always used for her meals, is human meat. Then camera pans through the restaurant when everybody looks very appreciate the foods which cooked by Dara herself. Dara who still won over the men' fights yet, smiles and make a grimace to camera.
