Signal
Main
The KRND tower is located in the South Side Historic District, between 2nd and 3rd street, between Evans and Van Lennen Avenue, sharing the lot with St. Joseph's food pantry. They currently send out 10 kw of power during the daytime, offering local coverage of Cheyenne and Burns.[1] The signal is supported by good ground conductivity in most of the metro, and a non-noisy environment. At night, as all x-band stations do, they decrease power to 1 kw, which still covers Cheyenne locally, with skywave coverage to Salt Lake City and Albuquerque.[2]
Other
Presently, KRND operates a translator on 94.7, K234AH, located 11 miles west of Cheyenne, which broadcasts a city grade signal to the area.[3] This frequency was once used for KRAE, and KRKY.
Interference problems have been reported and/or experienced with KRND's main signal. Because of the local nature of the signal, spillover can occur between 1610 and 1650 AM (common for AM stations within 5-10 miles). A harmonic frequency was reported a few times on 3260 (1630*2) in the Shortwave band.
History
The call letters KKWY[3][4] were assigned to a classic country station in Cheyenne on November 21st, 1997, as a construction permit[4] on the X band. The station would eventually be switched to 24/7[5] Spanish-language programming under La Familia Broadcasting in 2005. Besides this, not much is known, about KRND. In 2013[6], an application was submitted for 1.7kw by KRND, and in 2020[3], the license was switched over from La Familia to SMCC, amongst numerous attempts to adjust their antenna in one way or another.
Programming
According to the station website, they play Regional Mexican music.
