Mirrors

Information icon Thanks for contributing to the article Muhajir (Pakistan). However, one of Wikipedia's core policies is that material must be verifiable and attributed to reliable sources. You have recently used citations which copied, or mirrored, material from Wikipedia. This leads to a circular reference and is not acceptable. Most mirrors are clearly labeled as such, but some are in violation of our license and do not provide the correct attribution. Please help by adding alternate sources to the article you edited! If you need any help or clarification, you can look at Help:Contents/Editing Wikipedia or ask at Wikipedia:New contributors' help page, or just ask me. Thank you. Thanks a lot for reviewing the Muhajir (Pakistan) article. I think [1]https://infogalactic.com is not a Wikipedia mirror, to me it appears to be a separate wiki. Furthermore the page i used as a citation ([2]https://infogalactic.com/info/Muhajir_diaspora) does not exist on Wikipedia. I am think this is a semi-reliable citation, so can you please consider giving a second glance to the above mentioned website. Muhajir (talk) 18:57, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page watcher). Infogalactic is a mirror of Wikipedia. They specify "This article's content derived from Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia (See original source)." under each article. As such, it's not a reliable source. Even if it were a separate wiki, it would still not be a reliable source, as we do not accept user-generated content. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 16:58, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I gave specific examples right within that sentence - did you not see the part that said with phrases like "Muhajirs are famous for their habit of eating paan." and "Muhajirs clung to their old established habits".? These are subjective and unencyclopedic in tone. You also have statements like "Muhajirs had no culture originally," which is literally impossible; no people have no culture. By underbaked I mean that the section is underdeveloped within the article. For example, you only have two sentences on literature, and the second one makes no sense unless you have familiarity with the concept of Mushaira, which most readers will not. And now that I look, your source for the statement "The majority of Muhajirs speak Urdu as their native tongue, therefore most of Muhajir poets and writers write in Urdu" does not seem to mention Muhajirs at all, so I'm concerned that there are other issues with source-text integrity in the article as well. That's all without even getting into the writing in the article, which could use a copyedit. I suggest taking it to the Guild of Copy Editors once you're done fixing the more serious issues. ♠PMC(talk) 19:29, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Muhajir Americans moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Muhajir Americans, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. – dudhhr talk contribs (he/they) 18:43, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You have shown interest in South Asian social groups. Due to past disruption in this topic area, the community has authorised uninvolved administrators to impose contentious topics restrictions—such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks—on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, expected standards of behaviour, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on these sanctions. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

A tag has been placed on M. Habibullah Khan requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from profit.pakistantoday.com.pk/2018/04/02/pakistans-mystery-billionaire and en.dailypakistan.com.pk/headline/mystery-billionaire-files-single-largest-amnesty-declaration-in-pakistan. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Urdu literature into Muhajir (Pakistan). While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 20:28, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings @Flamealpha123, I am observing Muhajir (Pakistan) from a neutral kind of distance. I do have a following friendly advice for you.
  • In any collaborative environment like Wikipedia having differences over content is natural. Those are to be sorted out as per processes mentioned @ WP:DR
  • Wikipedia:Assume good faith about other editors. Personalization of dispute like this is unlikely to be appreciated on Wikipedia in long run. I will advice you, preferably take a step back and strike out that sentence.
  • Go for point by point discussion. If you have given reference for text added and if some one has doubt or reservation then provide relevant quote and page number from that reference and explain why do you find important and how that reference is credible enough.
  • Take care on copyright, in the articles you have to write in your own words and not copypaste.
Wish you happy Wikipedia editing

You have been blocked from editing from certain pages (Muhajir (Pakistan)) for a period of 3 months for edit warring.
The extended block reason provided is: "Edit warring / ownership behavior / restoring disputed content without the required consensus; the article would probably significantly benefit from uninvolved edits by other users without interference from Sylvester Millner and Flamealpha123, who can still make edit requests".
Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions.
During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text at the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  ~ ToBeFree (talk) 20:26, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

The material was not in dispute as the user removing it did not create a topic in the talk page, he should he gained consensus on talk page for removing 40,000 bytes of information and also please look at this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Muhajir_(Pakistan)#Article_written_on_fanpoint_view another user started a conversation on the same problem (POV) and it is clear at the end of the discussion that there is consensus (3-1) that no POV is left. Also I asked this user twice to provide evidence ([4][5]) that something is wrong with my edits and both times I was ignored. I reverted the edits because the consensus was against the edits as I have mentioned above and also most of the info removed was cited with highest level of sources such as:

  • the Pakistan population figure, which was cited with census results from the official government website, was replaced with some phony figure (which was not even cited) and the census source was removed
  • many sources were removed in the languages part of the info box for no apparent reason, and many of those sources were books and journals
  • Large parts in the population section (all sourced) were removed also for no apparent reason
  • In total 87 sources were removed from this article that's another reason why I reverted the edits
To me it appears as if the user simply resored this version [6] (31st may) and this removed everything added since good and bad

I'm surprised about how even a direct reference to WP:ONUS in the block reason and the block notification is so clearly ignored. Hi :I see the reason I have been blocked for and I totally accept that I did it. I was being hasty, trying to win back the trust of the wikipedia community by expanding articles without getting involved in an edit war, I didn't realize that I could be violating other policies. I apologize sincerely for the mistake I did and assure you I have read WP:CV and WP:5P and now fully understand them so I will try my best to not do anything of this sort again. I have proposed a way to fix my edits in the next section. Flamealpha123 (talk) 17:30, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In order to lift the block, we need to be certain that you understand how copyright works on Wikipedia. To allow the reviewing administrator to assess your understanding, please respond to the following questions in your next unblock appeal, explaining in your own words:

  • What is copyright?
  • How is Wikipedia licenced?
  • Why is copyrighted content not allowed on Wikipedia?
  • Under what circumstances can we use copyrighted content?
  • How do you intend to avoid violating the copyright policy in the future?

Your answers will enable us to establish whether or not you should be unblocked. Yamla (talk) 17:46, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Yamla asked me to answer some questions to assess my understanding here are the answers: :# Copyright is the a privilege or right given to the author of a book, journal, etc to be the only ones who can reproduce the work or allow others to do so. :# Wikipedia is licensed under CC BY-SA and GFDL and these allow users to reuse articles from Wikipedia if the real authors are attributed :# Copyright violation is not allowed on Wikipedia because it is a violation of International law and can cause problems for Wikimedia foundation :# Copyright material can be used on Wikipedia if the author provides a license to use it. :# I plan to paraphrase everything I take from other sources by myself or using bots such as ChatGPT; or I will request licenses. @Yamla Can you please tell me what do you mean? What do I have to do now? Flamealpha123 (talk) 17:34, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The level of paraphrasing im talking about is this:

Close paraphrasing is the superficial modification of material from another source. Editors should generally summarize source material in their own words, adding inline citations as required by the sourcing policy. to Close paraphrasing involves making minor alterations to content obtained from a different source. As a rule, editors should present the information in their own language, accompanied by relevant inline citations, as directed by the sourcing guidelines. I used ChatGPT for this thats what I was talking about Flamealpha123 (talk) 17:34, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm saying you clearly don't understand copyright and WP:FAIRUSE at this time, so need to remain blocked. If you want to be unblocked, reread and ensure you thoroughly understand WP:COPYRIGHT and WP:FAIRUSE, then make a new unblock request correctly answering the questions I posed. Also, stay far, far away from ChatGPT. ChatGPT is actively harmful to you here. --Yamla (talk) 17:47, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Can you please tell me which questions I answered incorrectly? So I can focus on those topics Flamealpha123 (talk) 15:04, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Your answers to question 1 was dubious, though not outright incorrect. Your answer to question 3 implied the problem was that copyright law is international. Your answer to question 4, as I previously mentioned, missed all of WP:FAIRUSE. Your answer to question 5 was terrible and would directly place the project in legal jeopardy. In general, your answers demonstrated a profound lack of understanding of WP:COPYRIGHT and WP:FAIRUSE. --Yamla (talk) 15:11, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Flamealpha123, where does "is the a privilege or right" come from? The main point of this specific appeal is demonstrating understanding. You started it with the words "privilege" and "right". I see two possible explanations, but maybe there are others; I'd be happy to learn about them. My interpretation is as follows: Either you know what these words mean and separated them intentionally – a little unlikely given that you have removed one of them without explanation as soon as I pointed it out – or you're writing things you don't fully understand while writing them. Again, in an appeal meant to demonstrate understanding. For me personally, that alone raises an eyebrow, additionally given your reference (well, even explicit proposal of usage) to ChatGPT above.
So while I'm certain that ChatGPT didn't write this appeal, I'm afraid that there is a lot of misunderstanding, surprise, and a feeling of having to appeal the block just to not be blocked, here. So strong a feeling that it led to you copying others' text to demonstrate how good it would be to remove a partial block from one (!) page. A time-limited one that would have automatically expired after three months. This is completely irrational.
You don't have to appeal a block just because you are blocked, though. It's fine to be blocked from editing the English Wikipedia, and to remain blocked from editing the English Wikipedia, until the block actually prevents helpful contributions. I currently can't imagine which these would be, I need to frankly say. I see no benefit in removing the block or I'd do in this second.
There is no time limit on unblock appeals, and I recommend waiting, ideally a year or two, before deciding if building an encyclopedia is really what you are both capable of and willing to do. When and if that's the case, write an appeal that convinces the reviewing administrator that you have changed and have specific good plans for editing Wikipedia. With examples of these plans.
Best regards,

The right-privilege is not something really controversial, I used "right or privilege" for explanation. Like a non essential phrase in pre 2023 SAT writing. She is obese, or fat, because she eats alot. Kind of like this. Flamealpha123 (talk) 03:02, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I had misread that then, perhaps because of the missing comma. Unsure. Well. There is a difference between "privilege" and "right" (ironically one often referred to in unblock discussions, but that's another story). You used both terms as synonyms without actually understanding them, so my point stands. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 06:52, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There seems to be a misunderstanding, my unblock appeals were not because I hate being blocked, they were so I could nominate Muhajir (Pakistan) for GA. Can I be given a sort of "probation period" to prove I have reformed? Flamealpha123 (talk) 03:48, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You've had yours, and your behavior during what one might call a "probation period" brought us to the current situation. Please stop asking; my message from 23:37, 14 June 2023 (UTC) contains all information you need. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 07:52, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Last question: must I wait a year or two because you say "recommend" or if I decide meet the conditions after a few months I can request again? Flamealpha123 (talk) 14:02, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you decide, you'll likely be wrong, and your question is a sign for this. Rather two years than one. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 15:40, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
