Contingency sponsorship is a common form of "after the fact" sponsorship whereby racers place stickers on their vehicles from companies that post monetary awards to race teams for winning, in exchange for visibility and the right to use images of the driver and their car in promotional literature and advertising. Common in auto racing contingency sponsorships are generally arrangements where a sponsor (typically a company / manufacturer) offers prize money to winning drivers who use their products or display their decals on their vehicles.[1]

In NASCAR and other major racing series, the front side panels are mottled with mostly rectangular stickers, or contingency decals, that teams are either required or financially encouraged to place there.[2]
