James Ferguson (August 31 1797 - September 26 1867) was an American astronomer born in Scotland.

Working in Washington D.C., he discovered three asteroids:

31 Euphrosyne (1854)
50 Virginia (1857)
60 Echo (1860)

His first discovery (Euphrosyne) was the first asteroid discovered in North America.
