Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 2600:8800:ff0e:1200:150c:31b:85b8:805e (talk) at 08:22, 24 August 2017 (Portal:Current events/2017 August 21). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading of article protection, upload protection, or create protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Indefinite extended confirmed: Arbitration enforcement – WP:ARBPIA3#500/30. jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk) 01:48, 20 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Note: IP has violated the no restore clause of the Arbitration decision. jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk) 02:14, 20 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
information Administrator note - This article is right up to the line of what I would consider to be "reasonably construed as belonging to the Arab-Israeli conflict." I'm leaning decline on the protection request as while the conflict is mentioned it is not the main subject of the article and we generally try to be as open to editing as possible as a default stance. However, I would appreciate a second opinion from another admin prior to handling the request. Mifter (talk) 07:20, 20 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Mifter - If the article contains content that could or would be considered "Arab-Israeli conflict-related", then the article is within the realms of this topic and therefore WP:ARBPIA3#500/30 would apply. Broadly construed is what this very situation is meant for; if content within an article subject has a legitimate argument to be considered within a given topic under discretionary sanctions or if the content appears to be "borderline" or "dancing" within the given topic, then the article can be considered as being within that particular topic and therefore under discretionary sanctions. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:09, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
User:Oshwah, User:Mifter The article clearly belongs to the area and the IP disruption is ongoing could someone protect it?--Shrike (talk) 07:07, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Shrike - I've semi-protected the article for two days. Mifter requested above for another admin to respond and give him input - I'd like to see his response and thoughts before adding 30/500 to this article. I don't want to step on anyone's toes :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:14, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    Declined It's been several days. Enigmamsg 04:48, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – Probably worth a block or 2 as well. Toddst1 (talk) 21:57, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Just the one. I asked here already about this article. It's somewhere above atm. --Hillbillyholiday (talk) 22:01, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@User:Hillbillyholiday could we get you to try and engage in a conversation on the talk page over editwarring.--Moxy (talk) 22:29, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    No. It's an unequivocably 3rr-exempt situation. --Hillbillyholiday (talk) 23:35, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
So to be clear here you're unwilling to participate in any discussion about your removal of content that is source and has been disputed.--Moxy (talk) 00:01, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, do behave. I'm discussing this article at AN/I, AN/3RR, and HERE! --Hillbillyholiday (talk) 00:12, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Declined. This whole situation is being discussed at WP:ANI and there is more to it than this one article. Of course any more edit warring could lead to blocks. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 05:13, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. Repeated deletions of entire sections on Black conductors with the edit summary "Color does not matter when conducting". As well, the lead, including a photo of a famous Black conductor being awarded a medal, was deleted with the edit summary stating that "irrelevant material" was being deleted. The Racial bias on Wikipedia contains reliable sources indicating that there is poor coverage of African and Black history and individuals on Wikipedia. The Wikimedia Foundation has also expressed concern about racial bias on Wikipedia. OnBeyondZebraxTALK 02:47, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Nakon 03:02, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite pending changes: Persistent vandalism – Persistent hoaxing and bizarre vandalism by IPs and newly-registered users. Blake Gripling (talk) 02:52, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedWarn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. Nakon 03:03, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: BLP policy violations – Repeated insertion of BLP violating content by red letter and ip editors. Refusing to engage on talk. Right now content is WP:NOTNEWS, but could develop into something we'll need to cover. Problem is not going to resolve soon. John from Idegon (talk) 03:32, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 05:24, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – this page receives unconstructive edits from IPs and newbies. . Saqib (talk) 06:59, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 08:18, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Full protection: Per the talk page, this is a POV fork. It's a long story but numerous variants of this title have been attempted over the years and they've all ended up being redirected to Ezhava. Sitush (talk) 07:01, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – IP hopper persistently making the same unsourced change. jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk) 07:02, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – IP keeps on removing those related to the shooting of Kian Loyd delos Santos. TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 08:19, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

who does he think he is kidding I can name over a hundred named accounts now which all follow the same pattern just as this one is doing - you may ask why don't I just start a sock puppet investigation? what would be the point? even now I am sure he is starting 10 more new socks to get his way as HE HAS DONE FOR YEARS!!!-- --2600:8800:FF0E:1200:150C:31B:85B8:805E (talk) 08:21, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Handled requests

A rolling archive of the last seven days of protection requests can be found at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection/Rolling archive.
