Hi, and welcome to the Aviation WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to aviation.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated very frequently. You can watchlist it if you're interested; or, you can add it directly to your user page by including {{WPAVIATION Announcements}} there.
- Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has several departments, which handle article quality assessment, detailed article and content review, and project-wide collaboration.
- We have a number of child projects and task forces that focus on specific topics and aircraft types.
- We're developing a variety of guidelines for article structure and content, template use, categorization, and other issues that you may find useful.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the experienced project members, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 21:10, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Wow! You're off to an incredible start, keep up the good work in creating aircraft articles! There is a template available to assist you if you wish to use it, {{aerostart}}. You just create the page with {{subst:aerostart}}, then fill in the blanks. This sets up the page in they stand layout so that all aircraft pages have the same basic style. Anyways, I'm sure I'll see you around the project. Thanks and welcome!- Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 21:10, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
- I'll second that! Welcome aboard! :) If it's aircraft that you're specifically interested in, you might also want to sign up at WikiProject Aircraft. I've just been over your recent contributions, making a few changes to line them up with the project standards. I won't subject you to a blow-by-blow account of what I've done - you can see that for yourself by visiting the articles. If you have any questions, please feel free to drop a note on my talk page or the WikiProject Aircraft discussion page. Cheers! --Rlandmann (talk) 23:56, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks you guys, I am into aircraft but also other aspects of aviation. However for the moment I'm doing what I can with the requests list, I did 15 yesterday and I aim to get 15 done today :) LGF1992UK (talk) 12:14, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- Excellent! If your looking for a list of things to do, there is also User:Rlandmann/JAE, Wikipedia:Aircraft encyclopedia topics, or any of the red links in these lists. There's no end to the fun! - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 14:07, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
A few tips
Now that you seem to be getting settled in, just a few unsolicited formatting tips!
- Many of the types you're contributing articles on are one-off prototypes. This will mean that many of the standard article fields and sections will be irrelevant or inappropriate. In particular, please don't insert data into the "main user", "introduced", "retired", and "status" fields of the infobox, or the "operators" section of the article body. Or, if you really want to, just make a note like "prototype only" in the status field. Keep in mind that the infobox fields are descriptive of an aircraft project, even if only one example was built. We don't usually include notes like "never" - we just leave the field blank.
- Please wiki engine and weapon types when they appear in the specifications section, and within the article text too, at your discretion.
- Units of measurement must have a space in front of them, so always "162 mph", not "162mph", "110 hp", not "110hp".
- Don't wiki dates unless there is some specific reason to do so; and linking countries is probably only useful in really obscure cases where you think readers may not have heard of the place.
- Since you're contributing articles on fighters at the moment, it will be easy for you to pick up the relevant part of the category scheme. It always follows the pattern nation-role-decade, with the "decade" part being the decade in which the type first flew, so: "British fighter aircraft 1910-1919", "United States fighter aircraft 1960-1969". There are a few little "gotchas" when it comes to nations whose names have changed over the years - you can always browse down the category tree from Category:Fighter aircraft if you're unsure, or just sing out for help if you need it.
- Many manufacturers have their own category as well, and perhaps a navigational footer too. You can look for these under Category:Aircraft by manufacturer and Category:Manufacturer-based aircraft navigational boxes respectively. The latter are a relatively new feature of the project, so there are still many gaps.
- Please include author details for books, thus:
Sorry to bombard you - hope that isn't information overload! And if I haven't explained anything properly, please just ask :) --Rlandmann (talk) 21:41, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, sorry if I've been messing up the formatting, I've never done this before :D. I'll keep it in mind though. LGF1992UK (talk) 16:47, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
- No! Please don't think of it as "messing up" anything! We were all new here once and you have absolutely nothing to apologise for - you're getting the hang of things very quickly. As a further exercise that I think might help, I actually left a step-by-step annotated cleanup of the Fairey F.2 article, which you can see here. If you click on the word "last" near the start of each line, you can see a comparison of the "before" and "after". --Rlandmann (talk) 20:59, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Unknown things
Great to see you contributing new articles again!
I just wanted to ask you to be careful of statements like "no further information is known about them or their fate". How do you know that nobody knows anything more about them or their fate? That kind of statement really needs to be sourced somewhere. Does the Gordon & Swanborough book say something to this effect? --Rlandmann (talk) 20:45, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

RAF Squadron template
Fantastic work - I can't believe no-one had done that yet! I've moved the template to a more conventional name: {{RAF squadrons}}. The only "gotcha" I can see is that there's a very solid trend on Wikipedia to standardise these tables using the {{navbox}} format, which (among other things) allows large navboxes like this one to be collapsed down out of view. But don't worry - someone else will no doubt address this at some point (even me, if I get the time). In the meantime, you should feel free to start rolling it out across the squadron articles. Maybe you should also check to see that we have equivalent templates for the Wings and Commands as well? --Rlandmann (talk) 20:38, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- OK - that should do it. MILHIST may want to change the colour of the title bar - they use a Steel-blue. Why not ask for some input here? --Rlandmann (talk) 21:37, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
Your request for rollback
I have granted your request for rollback. Please make sure you are familiar with how rollback works. In general, the tool is only for reverting obvious vandalism - any edit, no matter how awful or biased, that could possibly have been made in good faith should not be reverted in this manner. Never use rollback on the edits of regular contributors and most of all, use common sense. Remember rollback privileges can be revoked by any administrator. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. —αἰτίας •discussion• 16:46, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
Numismatics
Greetings!! I'd like to welcome you to WikiProject Numismatics. Anything you see that can be improved upon, go for it, anything that is lacking add it, anything that is all together absent, please fill us in. There are quite a few knowledgeable people of both numismatics and wikipedia, in this little project, so don't hesitate to ask. Please be sure to read through the whole of the project pages, as we have just recently started using some of them. Again, welcome.
- You can add this to your user page:

- Hope this gets you off and contributing to the little project that makes the world go round. If you need anything don't hesitate to ask either me, or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Numismatics. See ya :) Joe I 07:59, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Bernard
Looks fine to me - we need as many of these as we can get, certainly any manufacturer with more than 2-3 designs should have one.
Just a word of warning - French designations work very differently from how English-speakers expect them to. Designations starting "H" are not a separate sequence; they simply mean Hydravion (which I guess you know is "seaplane") and should be included in the main sequence.
The other big gotcha is that the final digit in a designation often just indicates a subtype. So while the Americans or Germans would go Foo 12A followed by Foo 12B and Foo 12C, the French would go Foo 120 followed by Foo 121 and Foo 122.
So, for example, it's hard to know at first glance whether something like the Bernard H.52 is a "model 52" or a "model 5C".
Some helpful sites when "fleshing out" these templates include the The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Directory of Airplanes: their Designers and Manufacturers, the RAF Museum Thesaurus, and for French types, aviafrance.com. Cheers --Rlandmann (talk) 18:45, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Ferdinand Payan
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Ferdinand Payan, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. New Asian Articles
Hey, I've been noticing all the recent article you've been creating on Asian cities/counties. While this is appreciated, could you look into each individual city/county more? Everyone of the articles is a stub, and I'm sure you can dig up some good stuff on each one of them. Just a tip, and by no means a directive. -LelandRB (Chat · contribs) 01:35, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
- Quite. I personally don't speak Chinese, but I'm glad to hear you'll improve these eventually. Keep up the good work! -LelandRB (Chat · contribs) 01:58, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
DYK
I reviewed the article that you started on European route E29 and I found major concerns. You still have some time to fix them. First, DYK articles need to have at least 1500 characters, and this article has around 700. Second, the hook fact used on the main page for the article needs to be sourced by a reliable source. Third, on a related point, you don't have a single reference for the entire article which means that a maintenance tag should be applied stating that the article is unreferenced. I know the expectations for DYK articles are somewhat high, but it's important that DYK features the best new articles. It's a decent accomplishment to have an article appear on the main page! New article requests
Hi again LGF1992UK - it's been a while!
We're now very much on the home straight with Wikipedia:Aircraft encyclopedia topics/4 - only 40 aircraft left to cover - only 5% of the original 830 types on the list!
I was wondering if you'd care to crack open Green & Swanborough again and "take care of" the few remaining vintage fighters on the list? These include:
- Marinens Flyvebatfabrikk MF.9 - (high priority - my sources on this one are very poor; may possibly be under "Høver")
- Nieuport VI (currently lumped together under manufacturer, click here to edit)
- Nieuport 14
- Nieuport 23
- Nieuport-Delage NiD 30
- Nieuport-Delage NiD 39
- Nieuport-Delage NiD 42
There are a few other "knotty" ones in the list, but we'll get them :) Could you also perhaps take a look and see if the book includes anything under "Kaiserliche Werfte" and if it does, let me know rather than starting an article just yet? There were about 6 different individual types there that need untangling....
Cheers --Rlandmann (talk) 02:00, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
French film
Cool. Good to have you on board. Yes a staggering amount of work need doing for French film. One of the most important tasks is completing the lists, adding full list of films by year e.g French films of 1920. If we had more films red linked by year it would give us the scope to work on. Also remember to add {{CinemaofFrance}} to the footer of every releated page to connect years and the cinema together. Best Dr. Blofeld (talk) 17:37, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey, i've removed your db tag from the article; it is (fairly) obvious that it is an article about a chemical and doesn't fall under the "no context" tag (which would be for articles where a layperson had no idea what was going on). Well, it's just 1 day until the contest begins, so I thought I'd check in with everyone and make sure you're all ready to go. First I'd like everyone to check out the main contest page and read over the rules and the scoring system. If you have any final questions or concerns, make them known on the talk page. Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Contest/History/2009 is the scoreboard that will be updated, you can watchlist it. Check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Contest/Submissions which shows how your submission page should look. You are now a Reviewer
Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 03:57, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Adopt-a-user reminder
Hello, I have completed a general cleanup of the adopter information page for the adopt-a-user project, located here. During my cleanup, I have removed several inactive and retired users. In order to provide interested adoptees with an easy location to find adopters, it is essential that the page be up-to-date with the latest information possible. Thus:
- If you are no longer interested in being an adopter, please remove yourself from the list.
- If you are still interested, please check the list to see if any information needs to be updated or added - especially your availability. Thank you.
- You are receiving this message because you are listed as an adopter here.

An update from adopt a user
Hi there LGF1992UK! You may be wondering, what have I done to sound the alarm this time? Nothing. I'm messaging you in regards to the adopt-a-user program, which currently has a backlog of users wishing to be adopted. This doesn't make much sense, as we have a considerable list of users offer adoption, so there shouldn't be any backlog. I've begun to eliminate this backlog myself through a matching program, but I need your help to make it work. Of course, adoptees and adopters don't have to go through there, but I believe it helps eliminate the backlog because someone is actively matching pairs.
On the list of adopters, I have modified the middle column to say "Interests." It's easier working with other users that have similar interests, so if it's not too much to ask, could you add your interests in the middle column? For example, if I was interested in hurricanes, computers, business, and ... reptiles? I would place those in the middle column. Counter-vandalism and the like can also be included (maintenance should be used as the general term). The more interests, the better, since adoptees can learn more about you and choose the one they feel most comfortable working with. The information about when you're most active and other stuff can go into the "Notes" section to the right.
Finally, I've gone around and asked adoptees (and will in the future) to fill in a short survey so adopters can take the initiative and contact users they feel comfortable working with. We all know that most adoptees just place the adopt me template on their user page and leave it - so it's up to us to approach them and offer adoption. So, please take a look at the survey, adopt those that fit your interests, and maybe watchlist it so you can see the interests of adoptees and adopt one that fits your interests in the future.
Once again, thank you for participating in the adopt-a-user program! If you wish to respond to this post, please message me on my talk page.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Proposed deletion of Andorra 2000
The article Andorra 2000 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (companies) requirement. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page here in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back through WP:ECHO or by leaving a note at User talk:Piotrus. Thank you.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. - creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.
For the Milhist co-ordinators. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) & MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 07:24, 26 February 2017 (UTC)
