DescriptionLocomotive BASIC loading a picture from disk.gif
English: A short Locomotive BASIC program is run which loads a Mode 1 picture showing the Mandelbrot set from floppy disk and then enters an infinite loop to hide the text cursor and stop the BASIC Ready prompt from appearing. The window blinds effect while loading is caused by the way the CPC's bitmapped screen memory is laid out. Note that the LOAD command does not require the start address (&c000) as a parameter because that is saved in the binary screen dump file. Also note that the closing quotation mark after the file name is optional if it would occur at the end of a line, as it would here. The Mandelbrot image itself was rendered with a Locomotive BASIC program on a real CPC in the late '80s or early '90s and took several hours to complete. Taken on an Amstrad CPC 6128 emulated in MAME and captured as a GIF with Peek.
