Critics of age of empires

[edit]

Have played thru Titans. Found up to this point, nothing to detract. I'm just glad they kept trying to add legacy. Not like blizzard and Starcraft. Wish i coul have gotten a copy of Ghost. Only single person game i would have bought. Never cared for Quake, World,Halo or Everquest. 76.79.9.122 (talk) 22:34, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Learning AIs?

[edit]

There is an uncited paragraph about the AIs in AoE3. How much truth is there to them actually learning your strategies and adapting to them? The article suggests they actually grow more powerful the more you face them in Skirmish games. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.36.75.141 (talk) 13:50, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The AIs in the original AoE "learnt" (but not very well), so it can be safely assumed they did in AoE3 as well. The AI players in AoE3 certainly remember the outcomes of past games and will taunt you about them. e.g. Frederick the Great: "I hope we will succeed now that you have me on your side. You played terribly last game." (this is not an exact quote, but the AIs do say words to that effect).

AOM is a spin-off but not AOE Online???

[edit]

How can this article describe Age of Empires Online as part of the main series but label Age of Mythology as a spin-off? AOE Online is a children's novelty that has almost nothing in common with the main series. (WP Editor 2011 (talk) 11:13, 29 November 2011 (UTC))[reply]

if you played Age of Empires Online, you will know that there is a serious game behind the cartoony artstyle. just because its different does not mean that it is childish. and you think it has nothing in common with the main series? the quests are common are like the campaigns, the skirmish hall is like your random map games in AoE and AoE2 and skirmish in AoE3, and the champion mode PvP is basically your LAN and game rooms from before? There is a lot in common, more common than differences. 67.204.56.2 (talk) 03:35, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

While I do support WP editor in saying that the art style in AoE:O separates it from all other Age games, it still continues the format and name, and therefore warrants inclusion in the series. I must say I personally dislike it regardless.

AI not cheating is not true at all

[edit]

Since I haven't played AOE 1 for a very long time, I can't say this about the first game in the series (incl. the following expansion(s)). BUT it's officially known the in AOE 2 (incl. The Conquerors expansion) the AI-controlled opponents are given every x period of time an additional amount of resources and other perks, which boost their advancement. The simplest test is to create a custom scenario with an AI-controlled opponents and not give them any villagers or starting resources. Soon you will witness a miraculous expansion and levelling up. Of course the speed of advancement depends on the difficulty setting of the AI - the harder it is, the more resources the AI is given every once in a while. Rbaleksandar (talk) 06:34, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

the development team gave the AI in the original game a very high priority, and spent over a year working on it. He said the AI in the game relies on tactics and strategies to win, instead of "cheating" by giving bonus resources to itself,

You will note from that it is only referring to the first game.

Aoe3 was the Worst game

[edit]

Aoe3 is a terrible game it sucks. It has no historical campaigns, just some fictional BULLSHIT. And the setting yeah it may not be napoleon but it is not even close to colonization of the americas either it is just a fictional bullshit setting mixing up elements historical settings into impossible shit. they put pikemen and riflemen together in the same fucking time period, fucking bullshit. Pikemen stopped being used the early 17th century. And riflemen in this they look like they are from the 19th century. So when does this game take place 19th or 17th century obviously they could not make up their mind so the bozos decided to mix the eras up, what a horrible decision, not to mention it is historically incorrect as well. They could have spent that money on a remake of rise of nations or a mac port of empire earth.

And yeah i am not criticizing age of mythology even though it is historically inaccurate but it has mythology literally in the name so it has an excuse.

Sean Paul

[edit]

Read the cited article, no mention of Sean Paul. How'd this slip in and never get removed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.3.218.71 (talk) 20:58, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New Marketing Section?

[edit]

Added on October 19 was a "Marketing" section by an unidentified user. A whole new section with only two events listed seems extremely unnecessary to me. If a section like this is going to be added it should at least be complete. I would suggest either removing it or adding a call-out for expansion to it. Thoughts? Cjfvanm (talk) 15:22, 16 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Length not really an issue. I've removed it though, because it was primary sourced only. There's no secondary coverage of this contest and its unimportant. -- ferret (talk) 15:56, 16 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
