logopedist
Logopedist is the specialist who deals with the correction of the speech sounds, the disorders in writing, reading and the ability to create any forms of mathematical operations. Logopedist is the professional who diagnoses speech and language disorders of a patient/client. Often, disorders of speech and language are accompanied by neurological conditions and/or disorders of the cognition in children and in adults. There are disorders of the sound production which are separated into the category of the dislallias. Dislallia is only a small part of the diagnostic criteria of speech disorders. There are different diagnostic measures, which underlie the logopedic prevention, diagnostics, and intervention.
The goal of the logopedist is to identify the disorders of the communication at an early stage, via diagnostic testing. For this aim, there are different methods that are being used. Most of them include diagnostic tests that evaluate the manifestations of the disorders of the speech and language in patients who are part of the logopedic practice.
The logopedist works in different settings: at schools, hospitals, clinics, and in private practice. He/She can correct some* dialects and all accents. That is why logopedists may be found in the movie business, classic theaters, etc.
As the profession is paraclinical, logopedists are a part of the clinical practice and administer clinical research.
Also, this is an interdisciplinary profession, which encompasses many areas in medicine, psychology, and in linguistics.
In the case of certain types of organic or functional disorders of the communication and/or conditions in children and in adults, which lead to impairment in the ability to communicate, the logopedist is the professional who discovers them and performs treatment/therapy of the existing problem and participates in a team of doctors, nurses, teachers and families.
NB: some* dialects: Not all dialects need to be a subject to therapy as they are an innate part of the culture in a certain country and changing them would be unnecessary, unless requested by the client. Even then, it would be unreasonable to assume that the dialect will or has to disappear.
