Etymology
[edit]From Ottoman Turkish مطبعه (matbaʾa), a noun of place from the root ط ب ع (ṭ-b-ʕ). Printing did not start in the Arab world until Napoléon brought a printing press to Egypt in 1798, whereas the Ottomans had first private tries from 1726 (it did not become widescale until the next century).
