Borrowed from Ukrainian шарова́ри (šarováry) or Belarusian шарава́ры (šaraváry), or Russian шарова́ры (šarováry), from Hungarian salavári, from Bulgarian шалвари (šalvari), from Ottoman Turkish شالوار (şalvâr), from Persian شلوار (šalvâr), from Middle Persian [script needed] (šlwʾl /⁠šalwār⁠/), from Proto-Iranian *šarawāra, from Proto-Indo-European *skelo- + *wero-.
