D.C. temporarily closes fish market at The Wharf during COVID-19 pandemic

WASHINGTON (ABC7) — Vendors at the Municipal Fish Market have been temporarily closed by D.C. due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The rest of The Wharf neighborhood will stay open for essential access to individuals homes, offices, hotels and businesses including carryout and delivery.

In a Sunday release, The Wharf says it has increased its cleaning and sanitation guidelines throughout all public restrooms, parks and open spaces, and parking garages to make sure its operating for everyone.

Shops and restaurants at The Wharf have adjusted hours of operation during COVID-19. The piers are closed but public streets to The Wharf will stay open.

LaToya Foster, Communications Director for Mayor Muriel Bowser released the following statement regarding The Wharf on Sunday:

The notice shall remain in effect until April 24 which is the last day of the public health emergency (subject to change). Since food is essential, the operators will be able to present a plan for social distancing to DCRA. If the plan allows for safe operations, the venue will be allowed to reopen, and DCRA and DC Health would continue to monitor compliance.
