ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — The WLOS Sports Department is welcoming a new member to the team -- Marvin Parker Jr.!
He's joining News 13 as the latestWeekend Sports Anchor/Reporter and will make his debut during Saturday evening's show, Feb. 11, 2023.
Raised in Dallas, Texas, and a season ticket holder since 1999, Marvin says he's the ultimate Dallas Cowboys fan. Witnessing Emmitt Smith break the NFL all-time rushing record is one of his favorite and earliest memories; attending a life’s worth of games with his dad, family and friends has brought the utmost joy and appreciation of sport and team that he tries to utilize in work and the everyday.
Before joining News 13, Marvin spent two years in the Mississippi Delta in the same role with The Delta News in Greenville. He received his MA in English, creative writing from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and BS in Mass Communication and electronic media from Texas State University.
He’s also a fan of the San Antonio Spurs, New York Yankees, Texas Longhorns, and Duke basketball – there’s a valid reason for them all. But he is always rooting for the success of the local teams!
He had a very sporty upbringing, but also, in his youth, he was an avid speed skater. (There’s very little that beats keeping up with long and short-track speed skating every Winter Olympic Games.)
With free time, Marvin enjoys writing, reading, staying fit, and listening to as much music as possible. Lastly, he is always down for a good movie, preferably going to the theater.
Before being anything else, he hopes to always first be a friend.
