A Georgia State Patrol Trooper died in the line of duty Sunday due to a patrol vehicle crash.

In a news release, the Georgia Department of Public Safety said Trooper Jimmy Cenescar was trying to stop a motorcycle for a traffic violation on I-85 Northbound near Old Peachtree Road in Atlanta.

Investigators added Cenescar's patrol vehicle left the road and hit an embankment. Cenescar was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries.

Trooper Cenescar had been on the job for one year, graduating with the 114th Trooper School in January 2023.

The department is asking for everyone's prayers for Trooper Cenescar's family as they cope with his loss.

Gov. Brian Kemp released a statement saying, "As a young public safety officer, he was at the beginning of a life with years of experiences and opportunities that lay ahead and a career dedicated to protecting others."
