This is our review of Aladdin at Liverpool‘s Empire Theatre!

Synopsis Of Aladdin

So, we meet Aladdin, who is effectively a street thug with no direction. However, he does have a desire to make his late mother proud. Meanwhile, Princess Jasmine is upset that she cannot decide for herself who to marry. And when the two meet, it’s clear that love is in the air.

However, there is a twist. The naive Aladdin believes Jafar and Iago, and enters the Cave of Wonders to find the magic lamp. That he does, and in doing so, he meets the mysterious, all-powerful Genie. The Genie promises to fulfill three wishes. And Aladdin realises the tremendous opportunity that he now has to turn his life around. But will all his dreams come true, or could they become nightmares?

Analysis Of Aladdin

As a Disney production, there comes an expectation of grandeur, and the show absolutely delivered on this. The show is superb, with everything from the costumes to the singing to the stage lighting. And of course, the immaculate settings, which elevate this show to a level few can reach. Not forgetting the prestige of the press night itself, with attendees allowed to pose with the magic lamp.

But it’s the man that lives in the lamp, the Genie – Yeukayi Ushe – that steals the show. His performance is sensational and one of the highlights of the entire year at the Empire Theatre. His positivity and energy are infectious, and the evening takes on extra significance whenever he’s around. Not forgetting Kerry Spark, who has a fabulous job as Aladdin. And the supporting cast are all highly talented singers and dancers.

Summary Of Aladdin

See it. Today. Simple as that. This is a fantastic production and one of the best shows of the year at Liverpool’s Empire Theatre. Indeed, the year 2024 ends with a bang with Aladdin. Make sure to see it over the festive season; maybe the Genie could grant you a wish too!
