Following storms Monday, June 28, 2021, the Road Commission of Kalamazoo County urged residents to exercise caution when negotiating damaged areas.

Officials said the following conditions should be handled with care:

Water over the road

Do not drive into high water. If possible, turn around instead of driving through an area with water over the road.

Officials said blocked or overfilled storm drains are often the cause of flooding in the road or in a yard. They asked residents to keep any drains near their homes free of debris like leaves and rocks.

Washout

The Road Commission of Kalamazoo County advised caution on road shoulders, as they can erode after heavy rainfall.

Trees

After a storm, the strength of trees and branches can be compromised. The Road Commission of Kalamazoo County said residents should be on the lookout for fallen trees or branches.

Officials also said sagging or broken wires in trees can still have a deadly amount of electricity running through them.

The commission's full Roadside Vegetation Management Policy could be found on its website.
