Those 60-years-old and over can shop 6-7:30 a.m. at every store

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) The grocery store Stop and Shop announced special hours for customers 60-years-old and over.

Starting Thursday, customers 60 and over will be able to shop at all locations between 6:00 a.m- 7:30 a.m.

The move comes as a measure to protect what the Center for Disease Control and Prevention has declared a vulnerable population in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to statement on the company’s website.

The store will have a designated entrance, and while IDs will not be checked, the company asks customers to “respect the purpose of the early opening – and do the right thing for your neighbors,” by allowing older shoppers to utilize the hours.

Most stores have enacted limited hours of operation between 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m, to allow for extra sanitation and restocking.

The company has also initiated “contact-free” delivery options, allowing for vulnerable or quarantined customers to pick up groceries from a doorstep or building entry.
