BRANDON SUTHERLAND Brandon has been dancing, choreographing and acting from a very young age, choreographing his first show at the age of 14 for the Georgian Theatre Royal, Richmond. He has obtained a degree in Dance Choreography and in 2022 set up his own dance company, ‘Sutherland Dance’. Since graduating, Brandon has gone on to choreograph and perform for Stage, TV and Film, as well as a successful career in dance teaching across venues around London.

Our top industry professionals will help you work through fun and upbeat routines from a variety of much loved musicals. You’ll develop techniques to help you storytell through dance in these dance lessons in London. Term by term these dance classes will take you through the technique of iconic musical styles inspired by legends including Bob Fosse, Gene Kelly, and Jerome Robbins.

For this Musical Theatre Dance course, you don’t need to be the best dancer, we are just looking for a readiness to learn, energy and passion. No experience is necessary! Just the willingness to have fun and give it a go. All ages over 18 are welcome.

  • WEEK ONE: Meet and Greet, Warm Up, Technical Focus: Travelling Kick Sequence, One Night Only Workshop (Dream Girls)
  • WEEK TWO: Warm Up, Technical Focus: Travelling Sequence, Finish learning One Night Only routine
  • WEEK THREE: Warm Up, Technical Focus: Turn Phrase, One Night Only – Refine/polish the routine
  • WEEK FOUR: Warm Up, Technical Focus: Travelling Sequence Timing Focussed, Dancing Through Life Workshop (Wicked)
  • WEEK FIVE: Warm Up, Technical Focus: Turns, Finish learning Dancing Through Life routine
  • WEEK SIX: Warm Up, Technical Focus: Ball Changes, Dancing Through Life- Refine/polish routine
  • WEEK SEVEN: Warm Up, Technical Focus: Triplets, I Won’t say I’m in Love Workshop (Hercules)
  • WEEK EIGHT: Warm Up, Technical Focus: Triplets with Turns, Finish learning I Won’t say I’m in Love routine
  • WEEK NINE: Warm Up, Technical Focus: Performance Skills, I Won’t say I’m in Love- Refine/polish routine
  • WEEKS TEN, ELEVEN & TWELVE: Re-visit all three numbers learned this term in order to perfect them for filming in the final week

Start with the basics and do classes courses in Jazz and then move on to musical theatre dance courses. If you’re just doing it for fun or as a hobby then staying flexible is important, but also having rhythm and musicality.

How to train for musical theatre?

Most people start with taking a few classes here or there, and those who take it a bit more seriously would enrol with an accredited institution.

How many people are in the classes?

At Stage & the City we cap our dance classes at 18

 What do we need to wear for the classes?

Whatever you feel comfortable moving in. Some classes require you to wear certain shoes, for example, tap shoes, split sole dance shoes etc.
