School systems in north Alabama are making preparations for the extreme cold temperatures with delayed starts.
Here is an updated list of schools set to close or delay on Tuesday, Jan. 28, and Wednesday Jan. 29, due to extreme cold weather:
- Albertville City Schools will be closed Wednesday. 12 month employees report to work ONLY if you can do so safely
- Athens City Schools will delay opening two hours Tuesday and Wednesday
- Boaz City Schools close at 11 a.m. Tuesday and will delay opening three hours Wednesday
- Colbert County Schools will delay opening until 10 a.m. Wendesday. Buses will run at 9 a.m.
- Cullman County Schools will be closed Wednesday.
- Decatur City Schools will delay opening two hours Tuesday with buses also running two hours later. Employees will have a one-hour delay. Breakfast will be served between 9 and 9:30 a.m.
- DeKalb County Schools released students at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday.
- Fort Payne City Schools released students at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday.
- Guntersville City Schools will be closed Wednesday
- Huntsville City Schools will delay classes until 10 a.m. Wednesday, but the school buildings will open at regular time in case parents need to drop off their children. Employees are to report at regular time, and breakfast will be served on regular schedule.
- Jackson County Schools will delay opening 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Teachers are to report at 8:30 a.m.
- Lawrence County Schools will delay opening two hours Tuesday and Wednesday. Teachers will report on time for early student drop-off.
- Limestone County School will delay opening two hours Tuesday and Wednesday.
- Madison Academy will be closed Wednesday.
- Madison City School will delay two hours Wednesday
- Madison County Schools will closed Wednesday
- Marshall Christian School in Albertville will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Students considered tardy at 10:30 a.m. No early morning care.
- Marshall County Schools will delay opening three hours Tuesday and Wednesday
- Morgan County Schools will release at 2 p.m. Tuesday
- Russellville City Schools will delay until 10 a.m. Wednesday
- Scottsboro City Schools will be closed Wednesday
- Union Chapel Christian Academy will open at 10 a.m. Staff should report at 8:30 a.m.
