There's one thing we know for sure when it comes to winning today's Powerball lottery: if you don't have a ticket, you're 100 percent guaranteed to lose.
But what if you do have a ticket? How good are your odds for winning Wednesday's $1.5 billion pot?
Pretty small, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association.
Odds of winning the grand prize - something that requires matching five winning numbers plus an additional "Powerball" number - is 1 in 292 million (292, 201,338 to be exact.)
Those odds are equal to flipping a coin and getting heads 28 times in a row or having your name randomly pulled out a hat filled with the names of everyone in the U.S. And consider this: your chances of being killed by a lightning strike are 1 in 164,968; chances of being executed for a crime 1 in 127,717.
Those numbers aren't slowing down buyers though. Long lines of ticket buyers are expected throughout the country tomorrow, with some Powerball locations reporting waits of up to five hours before last week's drawing.
