The hunt is on.
Detroit-based Ally Bank has hidden 10 fake pennies - each worth $1,000 - around the U.S. as part of a marketing scheme to demonstrate the importance of valuing every cent (get it?)
There's bad news for those of us in Alabama, however. While the penny frenzy may just be starting, people here will have to travel if they want to join in the fun.
The pennies were hidden in 10 places: Austin, Texas, Charlotte, N.C., Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, San Diego and Washington, D.C. If you happen to be at one of those places and come across one of the lucky pennies, you can go online and enter a code on the coin to secure your prize. The whole process is being documented on social media and the bank is even offering some hints.
The hidden coins are copper colored but slightly larger than a regular penny and have an Ally logo on the front with the number 100,000 on the back, the bank said.
The contest is running through the end of the year.
