Another day, another round of noise from Redstone Arsenal.
Garrison officials said the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command's Safety Office will be conducting routine demolition operations this afternoon in the southern part of Redstone Arsenal. The demolition will continue through the end of the week.
The normal booms and blasts will seem louder today due to the low cloud cover, so be prepared for some rattling.
Why does low cloud cover amplify the noise? Here's what the experts say:
"Noise circulation, and thus the level of noise being received by a person on the ground, is heavily impacted by different weather conditions. Sound travels in waves by vibrating particles in the direction of their movement. The particles in a dense medium, such as rain, fog and humidity, can vibrate other particles faster and cause sound waves to travel louder and clearer. Low cloud cover will increase the noise level by reflecting noise back to the ground and producing an 'echo' effect, while wind causes sound waves to bend in the direction that the wind is flowing."
