NEET 2025 Exam Pattern icon

The National Testing Agency (NTA) of India conducts the undergraduate pre-medical (NEET-UG) entrance examination for all medical aspirants across India and overseas via pen-and-paper mode. They are also the authority to specify the examination pattern in their official NEET-UG brochure.

The NEET-UG 2025 will be held on 5th May 2025 (expected). The paper consists of four subjects:

  • Physics (45 Questions, 180 Marks)
  • Chemistry (45 Questions, 180 Marks)
  • Botany & Zoology (90 Questions, 360 Marks)

Note:

  • 4 Marks will be awarded for every correct answer,
  • -1 will be deducted for every incorrect answer and
  • Zero (0) marks for unattempt questions.

The NEET-UG examination is an offline, pen & paper-based test, conducted in 13 different languages including English and Hindi.

Candidates appearing for the NEET-UG examination must understand the paper pattern thoroughly and prepare accordingly to score good marks.

NEET-UG Marking Scheme

NEET-UG question papers comprise Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), each with four options with one correct answer. Each question carries 4 marks each, and there will be a negative marking for each wrong answer. Check out the table below to understand the NEET 2025 marking scheme:

Unanswered Question 0 (No Marks)
  • For every correct answer, (+4) four marks will be awarded.
  • For every incorrect/ wrong answer, (-1) one mark will be deducted from the total.
  • No marks will be deducted for unanswered/ unattempted questions.
  • If a candidate has marked two or more options on the OMR sheet, then the answer will be considered wrong, and (-1) one mark is deducted.
  • In case, if more than one option is found correct, (+4) four marks will be awarded only to those candidates who marked any of the correct options.
  • In case, if all four options are found correct, (+4) four marks will be awarded only to those candidates who attempted the question.

NEET-UG Languages/ Medium of Exam

The medium or language for NEET 2025 completely depends on the candidates, as the exam is conducted in 13 languages i.e.  English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu, at different exam centers.

  • The medium and language of the question should be chosen at the time of filling out the NEET registration form. Once picked, the option cannot be modified.
  • Candidates who choose English will be given a Test Booklet in English only.
  • Candidates who choose Hindi or any other language, will be given a Bilingual Test Booklet in English and their chosen other language.
  • In the event of an ambiguity in the translation of any questions, the English version of the NEET question paper will be considered final.

NEET-UG Duration

The duration of the NEET 2025 exam is 3 hours (180 minutes). Candidates are advised to prepare their exam strategy according to the prescribed time limit.

NEET-UG OMR Filling Instructions

  • All answers must be marked on the OMR sheet using a ballpoint pen only.
  • Changing answers on the OMR sheet is not permitted.
  • Erasing or obliterating any information printed on the OMR page is a serious offence.
  • Rough work should be done on the provided test booklet.
  • A candidate must remember to write the provided test booklet code on the OMR sheet.
