Raise your hand if you’ve ever left your dry shampoo sitting on a sunny makeup shelf, or tossed it in your gym bag in the back of your car? Us too. But according to a scary new story from beauty goods retailer Ipsy, you’ll want to pay special attention to storing any aerosol cans properly — these babies can explode.

According to a report form Refinery29, at least SIX Ipsy Glam Bag subscribers experienced a scary aerosol explosion after leaving their monthly beauty loot — which contained an aerosol can of Luseta Beauty Volume Reviving Shampoo — sitting in their car. Luckily, no one was injured.

When reports of the scary malfunction started to surface, Ipsy issued a warning to customers on April 13 with an email that read, “Like other aerosol products, this dry shampoo is flammable, so please exercise care: avoid fire, flame, or smoke during use, and protect from sunlight or heat.”

A few days later, they made sure the message got through with a second note reading: “DON’T PLACE YOUR GLAM BAG MAILER ON THE DASHBOARD OF YOUR CAR.” Message received.

Apparently, the Luseta can is more sensitive to heat than most aerosols (otherwise we’d have seen a lot more of this), which is why Ipsy finally advised subscribers to toss the can safely by spraying all the contents of the can out at room temperature to get rid of the aerosol. According to Refinery29, subscribers will receive an extra item in their June Glam Bag to make up for the defective dry shampoo.

Aerosols in general can be more dangerous than other formulas thanks to the isobutane used as a propellant, which some watch groups classify as harmful to your health and the environment. If you can't avoid the heat or just know that it's another thing you don't want to be monitoring, and easy fix would be to just go for a powdered dry shampoo formula.
