Long gone are the days you can ask your hairstylist to just make you a blonde, brunette, or redhead. It's 2019, and that means hair colors are inspired by seasonal foods that will leave you looking like a snack. (See: "mushroom blonde," "fruit juice hair," "wine hair," "smoked marshmallow," and "cinnamon sugar crunch.")

The latest edible item inspiring enviable color is "ginger beer", a warm, coppery tone that pairs nicely with chunky-knit sweaters, boots, and transitional jackets.

Also known as "burnt sienna," the hue is popping up all over Instagram, Popsugar reports. Redken Brand Ambassador and celebrity colorist Cassondra Keading believes the color is becoming increasingly popular for fall because "it adds warmth and dimension" and is very versatile.

Our 2019 Best of Beauty Awards have arrived — check out all the winning products here.

"Auburn can vary in levels, from medium to dark, and in undertones, from red to copper and gold — which is why we’re starting to see different shades of auburn, like ginger beer, getting big this fall," Keading tells Allure.

And unlike another seasonal favorite, "ginger peach hair" — which is a bit more ombré with vibrant tangerine highlights — ginger beer hair boasts copper-red undertones. "There are many shades of red," Keading warns, adding that you should be specific with your colorist about the undertones to achieve the perfect hue.

She also suggests, "spicing up the red" with "a vibrant Redken Shades EQ Gloss, which is a super conditioning hair gloss that enhances your color and adds condition and shine."

Lighter-haired individuals will find that achieving the color can just take a few hours, according to Keading, but those with darker hues will likely need more time to lighten and lift, as well as quick follow-up appointments to adjust the color afterward. And while ginger beer hair may be all the rage at the moment, Keading also says that going red is no joke, so don't hop on the trend if you're likely to get bored before Thanksgiving.

"A key factor to know is that red fades quickly, but it can also be one of the hardest colors to get out," she says. "So make she you are ready for a commitment." She also suggests avoiding daily shampooing and says to use the appropriate color care products (like Redken Color Extend Magnetics Shampoo and Conditioner, for instance).
