Project Description:
The City of Amarillo is transforming the historic Amarillo Hardware Building into the new City Hall. This comprehensive renovation project modernizes both the interior and exterior of the 150,000 square-foot building.
The new facility will provide:
- Room for future expansion
- Modern infrastructure and technology
- Larger parking capacity
Funding Information:
The renovations are estimated to cost $35 million and will be funded by a combination of cash and debt that will be paid off over a seven year period.

Current City Hall
The current City Hall was built in 1966 and has been experiencing significant deterioration and failures.

Water Meter Upgrade

Project Description:
The City of Amarillo Water Utilities is replacing water meters throughout the city, to upgrade to digital meters that will operate with the best technology currently available to provide more water use data to the city and its residents. The additional data will help Amarillo improve customer service and provide residents with on-demand access to their water use through an online customer portal (in development).
Funding Information:
The water meter upgrade project is funded from a $29.5 million loan that included a $1 million loan forgiveness through the Texas Water Development Board’s Clean Water State Revolving Fund.
A four percent rate increase was implemented in 2021 to pay for this loan.
