- Reviewed in Canada on June 15, 2020Verified PurchaseSteve Jobs had a watch similar in style to this Casio MQ24-7B. And Pope Francis wears the version with slightly bigger numerals (MQ24-7B2). The MQ24-7B I purchased is very cheap, small, comfortable, slim AND functional. I love having numerals on a dial for quick reading of the time.
I have 6.25” wrists - small for a man - and the watch still looks very small, but this was the style years ago. I am in my 40s and used to wear watches this small into my early 20s, so this watch is very familiar to me. I have included a photo with another cheap watch that has a 40mm dial diameter.
The MQ24 has a fully plastic/resin body and strap. The back is stainless steel. The dial has an acrylic crystal, but it can be buffed out with a tube of polywatch if you scratch it. The strap is very thin and seems delicate, and is only a 16mm lug width but widens to 18mm outside. However, for $15 this watch is not a lot to get depressed about if you damage it; you can always get another later.
Here are some more things I like about this watch and also why it is a no-brainer to use as an everyday beater:
- The seconds hand on mine seems to tick right at the markers on the dial, which beats a lot of expensive quartz watches.
- I have a number of expensive mechanical and quartz watches but most of them are bulky and I always worry about banging them up. During the Covid pandemic, the majority of the time I am wearing my watches at home, where my watches tend to be more susceptible to knocks. But the Casio is small, slim and thus out of the way.
- This watch has no day/date complication, and hence no worry about changing the date at the end of the month if the month doesn’t have 31 days. Plus a couple of my watches have misaligned day displays and another one also suddenly broke its date wheel. So no worries on this one. Additionally, the lack of date on the MQ24 makes it easier to read and to set.
- It’s using a Japanese quartz movement, which is more accurate than an expensive mechanical watch. No need to set the time again every few days. Just a battery change every 2-3 years.
- The numbers are in a nice small font, which add to the minimalist look and doesn’t clutter up the dial to make it tacky.
- It’s only $15. Just get it! You won’t second-guess yourself at that price.
So it is simple and stress-free in various ways.
I had one issue with this watch, which was that I seemed to have gotten a returned item from Amazon as it had no removable film on the dial and the time was already set to the exact second. So make sure to inspect yours when you get it.
If you like this watch and it works for you, then it doesn’t matter what others think. Give it a shot.

Images in this review - Reviewed in Canada on May 20, 2019Verified PurchaseI lost my old watch when I dropped it on the street, and didn't notice until after I was on the bus. Considering I paid $5 for it, I didn't have a lot of needs for its replacement. I wanted something lightweight, accurate, analog, and minimalist.
Locally, there weren't many options. I could either pay $40+ for a Timex, or $10 for a chintzy thing from Wal-Mart. Truth be told, I tried one of those first, but it kept running fast, and ticked so loudly that it kept me awake when I left it on my nightstand. No good. There were better options for this price point on Amazon.
When you're after cheap decent watches, Casio is a name that will inevitably cross your path. At first I looked at some of their more slick digital offerings, but these barebones analog models soon caught my attention. They offer several models in this range, like the MQ24-7E and MQ24-1E, but I went with the 1B for its neutral white face, and clear but understated numbers.
The improvement from my old watch is immediately apparent. I thought that watch was lightweight, but it's got nothing on this. It's easy to forget you're wearing it. The low-profile face never catches on my jacket sleeves or slides down my wrist, which was a problem with some watches I've had. It's also an ideal size, easy to see at a glance, small enough to remain discreet, but not so small it could be mistaken for a woman's watch. It ticks so quietly, it's hard to hear it, even right by your ear.
Its timekeeping is dead-on. It came preset to the correct time (probably Amazon's doing, those cheeky scamps,) and hasn't drifted slow, or fast, since I got it a month ago. The narrow but bold hands make it easy to tell where it's pointing. If you ever need to change the time, it will probably be for Daylight Savings, or going to another time zone.
I like a silicone band, as well, but they can have problems, from making my wrist sweaty, to never having enough holes for the buckle. Not a problem with this Casio; the strap is lightweight but tough, and doesn't generate more than a negligble amount of sweat. I have narrow wrists, but there are still plenty of notches to go tighter, if you're, say, an animate skeleton who needs a timepiece. I'm confident it will stand up to any tearing or strain from daily use. It doesn't sit flat when resting on a table, but that's not a problem.
Its water resistance is acceptable, though I haven't done much more than have it out in the rain, and leave it on while washing dishes. The face hasn't gone foggy, like some of my watches have done before. The durability is also hard to complain about. My old watch had a plastic face, and it didn't take long to develop a few gashes, which cast a shadow on the face. This watch, also with a plastic face, has developed a scratch or two, but most of them have buffed out, and the ones that haven't are too fine to cast a shadow. Maybe don't scrape it against concrete, but it's held up well so far.
It is basic, though, and you may notice a few missing features. There's no date display, and the lack of a light makes it hard to read in some conditions. The white face and black hands compensate a bit, but they can only do so much. It's hardly an elaborate chronograph, but you don't need to go too far up the price range to find more detailed timepieces, even from Casio.
Still, though, for a watch to wear every day, that you wouldn't mind losing or scuffing, this one is ideal. Other models in this range exist, if you don't want numbers, or prefer a black or metal face, but they'll all offer this minimalist aesthetic. None of them display the date, have a light, or any other dials; just three hands, some notches, a silicone strap. Even so, it's hard to find problems with a classic like this.

- Reviewed in Canada on November 13, 2024Verified PurchaseMy hubby is a bit of a watch hoarder! I bought this for him for our 1 year anniversary and he was in love. It has a great band that fits those big wrists, looks sharp. You would never guess that it's not a $100 watch. There are other colours, but, the black looked the sharpest. Really nicely made Casio.
- Reviewed in Canada on September 25, 2024Verified PurchaseBought this watch to replace another one that the battery was dying on.
Opened the box and what a disappointment !
It is advertised as a mans watch but this one is so tiny it is more like a little kids watch, not at all like the misleading photo shown on the Amazon product page.
The photo I've attached show the new one next to the Amazon watch I was going to replace it with.
Too much bother to return it being as it is so cheap. I'll never wear it as it is too small for me to see properly.

Images in this review - Reviewed in Canada on December 24, 2024Verified PurchaseThis is a very basic watch with no day/date feature. The main selling point for me is crown is fairly small at 35mm which is perfect for people that have smaller wrists. Most men's watch have a large crowns of 40-45mm diameter. The strap is a good size and I had no problems getting a hole to fit. This model is very inexpensive and it's a Casio so I expect it to be reliable. Even if it is not, no big monetary loss. My only wish is they had an analog model with a date option.

Dunno how long it'll last but you get what you pay for so won't complain if I get couple years out of it. Plain, basic watch,no night light, no calendar... didn't realize that I'd miss them. Would I buy it again?? Only time will tell. Haha.

Verified PurchaseThis is a great little watch. Basic with no unnecessary extras (date etc) and with a clear face and numerals. I wanted a very cheap, simple, decent looking watch and this is it! Very happy and quite impressed with my purchase.
