The Freak of the Freakshow

That’s it! Today is the day. She’s finally crashing this freakshow. She wipes away her painted smile, and unlatches the cages containing the imprisoned circus animals. The elephants trample the tents. The lions tear apart the backdrops. The chimps knock over the fire breather’s torches, setting the debris on fire.

Her dress is deteriorated; her blouse, bloodstained. But still, she wears her bloody party hat as if the circus was not falling apart and ablaze all around her. She giggled coyly, as if the chaos around her was a cute joke.

“Ringmaster… remind me of that little pet name you gave me.” She turns to the trembling man, huddled against an ash-covered circus stool. In the girl’s hand, she held his iconic whip. “You called me “crazy”, right?”
