About this item

  • YOUR NEW GO-TO DUTCH OVEN: A flawless pairing of form and function that doesn't quit. The Lodge Dutch Oven not only makes your kitchen look good but is an enameled cast iron classic great for preparing and serving memorable meals. Broil, braise, bake or roast your favorite meals in the oven up to 500 Degree F.
  • WHAT IS PORCELAIN ENAMEL ON CAST IRON? It is glass that becomes bonded to the cast iron at high temperatures. A particulate of glass, called frit, is applied to the cast iron vessel and then baked at temperatures between 1200 and 1400° F. The glass frit melts and fuses to the cast iron, forming a bond. Porcelain enamel on cast iron is heat tolerant and impervious to water and other consumables.
  • EASY TO COOK AND CLEAN: The porcelain enameled interior has a smooth finish that minimizes sticking, promotes caramelization and resists staining. Although enameled cast iron is dishwasher safe, hand washing with warm soapy water and a nylon scrub brush is recommended to keep your Dutch Oven in tip top shape!
  • HEAT RETENTION: The cast iron vessel has superior heat distribution and retention, evenly heating throughout both the bottom and sidewalls. The tightly fitting lid seals in moisture for scrumptious pot roast, stews or a large batch of beans. Our heat retention also reduces the amount of energy needed for cooking.
  • FAMILY-OWNED. Lodge is more than just a business; it’s a family. The Lodge family founded the company in 1896, and they still own it today. From environmental responsibility to community development, their heads and hearts are rooted in America. Products made with non-toxic, PFOA & PTFE free material.

Cooking And Caring For Your Lodge Enameled Cast Iron

1. Allow cookware to cool.

2. Although dishwasher safe, hand washing with warm soapy water and a nylon Scrub Brush is recommended to preserve the cookware’s original appearance. Citrus juices and citrus-based cleaners (including some dishwasher detergents) should not be used, as they can dull the exterior gloss.

3. If necessary, use nylon pads or scrapers to remove food residue; metal pads or utensils will scratch or chip porcelain.

4. Slight stains can be removed by rubbing with dampened cloth and Lodge Enamel Cleaner or other ceramic cleaner according to directions on bottle.

5. Dry cookware thoroughly before storing. Do not stack cookware.

Product description

This 6-Quart enamel Dutch oven is great for cooking, marinating, refrigeration and freezing. The color porcelain enamel on cast iron can be used on gas, electric, ceramic and induction cooktops, as well as in the oven. Not recommended for use on outdoor grills or over open outdoor flames. Not for use in microwaves. Lodge Color Porcelain Enamel on Cast Iron cookware is cast from molten iron in individual sand molds. The porcelain surface eliminates the need to season cast iron. The cast iron vessel has superior heat distribution and retention, evenly heating bottom sidewalls and even the lid. Tightly fitting lid seals in moisture. The excellent heat retention reduces the amount of energy needed for cooking. Three layers of very hard, glossy porcelain enamel are chip resistant and easy to clean. Lid knob is oven safe to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. The black rim on the pot is matte porcelain, not exposed cast iron. Hygienic porcelain enamel is non-reactive with food. Although dishwasher safe, hand washing with warm soapy water is recommended to preserve the cookware's original appearance. 10 3/4" diameter, 4 1/2" deep.

All the flavours are in it, and the consistence is just perfect! So sad that the enamel is partially damaged. I am not going to return it, but very sorry for this imperfect.!!! Very heavy, careful with your appliances!

This is a great product. After doing my research and balancing it with my budget and what I thought would bring me the most value I decided to forgo the more expensive staub/le creuset options and go with Lodge. Affordable but not cheap, good variety in sizes and colors, and most importantly good reviews. I am here to add another favorable review to the pile.

Yes, it IS made in China. Don't let that deter you. 90% of products are made there. The phone I'm writing this review on and the phone you're reading it off of are both made in China. It is NOT a cheap product, nor does it feel like it's made in someone's shady warehouse with God knows what coatings. It is extremely good quality, the craftsmanship and their attention to detail, as well as quality control, are evident in every square inch.

It heats up fairly quickly, the heat distribution is nice and even, nothing, and I mean NOTHING sticks to it (of course if you let your food sit there for too long on high heat it probably will, but then again it would stick to anything), it's not overly heavy, just a joy to cook in. I am over the moon about this product and I already have added 2 to 3 more sizes to my wishlist.

Forget about faux luxury and expensive products for the sake of the brand name. Save your money. Get a Lodge. You will NOT regret it. I fully expect this product to last me decades and I really look forward to every meal I will be cooking out of it.

I've used it several times. Even heating across the bottom. Lid fits very well. Easy cleanup (as most are). This is a very well made Dutch Oven at a great price (I know China, but still...).. I've seen water evaporation and heat retention tests comparing this Lodge to a Le Creuset and the Lodge is just slightly less efficient. The thickness of the sides is identical, but the Le Creuset has a thicker, heavier base which I prefer.

I was not crazy about the color when I ordered it, but it looks much better than the photo I think. I'd say this is close to a Le Creuset Dutch Oven in quality (I have other Le Creuset enamel cookware). Compared to the Le Creuset, the Lodge oval 6 qt is more rounded on the sides and has a little less cooking surface on the bottom. But at 1/5 the price the Lodge is really a great buy.

I've been wanting to grab an enamelled Dutch oven for a while now but was always a little wary of some of the cheaper options when comparing to something like Le Crueset (which is waaay out of my price range). Lodge seems to have a good reputation for the rest of their cast iron cookware and bakeware and the price was just too good to pass up. For under $90 it's a lovely oven and the day it arrived I washed and dried it and got right into a homemade beef stew. The results were wonderful. I have a glass pot I normally use for oven stews but the glass can be temperamental about heat distribution on the stovetop. This pot was smooth the whole way through on a lower heat setting. Fond development was even when browning and loosened right up as soon as the wine and stock went in. In the oven, it was well sealed and everything came together perfectly. Clean up was a breeze and the colour is muted and classic.

I haven't tried any deep frying in it but did use it for a bread pudding and the results were solid and clean up was just as easy. I look forward to many years of use from this pot which will be retiring a few of my aluminum and steel pots. Next up - some slow-cooked pasta sauce.

I've used this twice so far - once to bake a roast and once to make soup on the stovetop - and I love this! The roast cooked beautifully and it's the perfect size for stovetop pastas and soups. I haven't had it long enough to speak about durability but so far, it's seems sturdy and well-made. I was looking into a Le Creuset Dutch oven but couldn't bring myself to spend $300 on one. The Lodge brand is a reputable one (I have other Lodge products) and so far this product is amazing so this is a great quality alternative to the more expensive brand.

The price on this when I bought it ($69) is WAY less than the other colours or even cheaper store brand dutch ovens. I don't mind a boring colour for that kind of a deal.

Build wise the finish looks good and I haven't seen any crazing or cracks despite putting it through it's paces (roasting, sauces, sourdough baking). I would have like it to be a little heavier but for this price it's understandable (and some people likely find a lighter dutch oven more convenient). The lip is pretty rough but other than an unpleasant grinding noise when you put the lid on it's not a big deal and will likely smooth out over time.

Great Dutch oven for people not wanted to spend a few hundred dollars on the Staub or Creuset. The handles are a great size and I love the stainless knob (as opposed to a plastic one) The porcelain enamel had no chips and arrived in great condition. I previously purchased one of these as a wedding present for my brother and he said it has worn great and wouldn’t hesitate to give one of these as a gift.

The 6qt is a good size for a family of 2-4. If you are cooking for a gang or only going to own one Dutch oven I would probably recommend finding a 7.5-8qt model.

The pot arrived in perfect condition and it hasn’t chipped or cracked at all. It is easy to wash. I didn’t want to pay double the price for a nicer coloured Lodge Dutch oven and I’m so glad I didn’t as I like the sandy beige color of this one and the price was right!

I bought this to bake my bread in and after the first use in the oven the outer enamel on the lid and exterior of the bottom showed strange discoloration in spots. I could understand this on the inside or if it was on a cooking surface with liquid etc but I used a baking mat and nothing was on the inside only the outside showed these spots.

5.0 out of 5 stars A little research goes a long way.
Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2020
    Style: Dutch OvenVerified Purchase
I think there may be an issue regarding what is to be expected and what is normal as far as Dutch Ovens go. The first one I received was perfect but it had a bump on the bottom with what looked like little holes going through. After seeing some of the negative reviews here I freaked out and ordered a replacement from Amazon. The second one looked in no way perfect, at least three bumps albeit covered in enamel and a superficial knick or two. It did have one tiny pinhole at the bottom though which, according to my research, is either perfectly normal or an area where rust can slowly develop over time and possibly cracking your enamel in the future.

I inspected my first piece once again and realized that the slightly raised bump on the inside and what appeared to be holes were not at all pinholes and though there was some discoloration, they were most certainly not exposing the iron underneath.

Now you may think that a high end french brand does not have issues with pinholes or bumps but if you do your research you will find that you are quite wrong and you’ll be paying six times as much.

I highly recommend that you research proper care and use of your dutch oven to take good care of it and curb your expectations of what the inside should look like. You are unlikely to find a completely perfect interior without going to a physical store and opening every possible box and inspecting it for yourself.

The second piece had quite a few superficial areas but the one tiny pinhole made me a bit worried. In the end I kept the first piece which was perfectly fine, I was just a bit misinformed and worried.

At the end of the day you are getting a really good dutch oven that like Le Creuset is third party tested for lead and cadmium, something many of these other brands cannot claim, and is highly respected when compared to other high end brands.

I will update my review as time goes on to see how well it holds up.

UPDATE: I ordered the 3qt at near full price and it had absolutely no bumps or pinholes compared to the larger size I bought at a discount price.

NEW Update: I have decided to rate these five stars. I have been using them for absolutely all my cooking and they have held up really well. I am very happy with these and glad I didn’t have to spend a fortune on Le Creuset or Staub.
