    Bloody Mama is directed by Roger Corman and written by Don Peters and Robert Thom. It stars Shelley Winters, Bruce Dern, Don Stroud, Robert De Niro, Diane Varsi, Robert Walden and Pat Hingle. Music is by Don Randi and cinematography by John A. Alonzo.

    Story is loosely based on the infamous Kate "Ma" Barker, who along with her sons would cause criminal carnage wherever they went.

    Very much coming off like the bastard son of Bonnie and Clyde, Bloody Mama finds Roger Corman on devilish form. He somehow manages to create violence that cuts hard, and yet there's still a pantomime vibe to things. The characters range from a mad matriarch who is a deathgasm addict - to a psychopath - a sadist - a submissive homosexual - a junkie torturer - and a hapless girlfriend, is it any wonder there's murder, robbery and seedy sexual shenanigans going on?! Hell the pic even begins with incestuous rape!

    Kiss me Kate!

    It's all very chaotic at times, led by a blunderbuss turn from Winters, but just when you think it's going out of control to the point of no return, Corman and his cast pull it back on track. It's often thrilling and unnerving, and with Corman blending newsreel footage of the era with the fact the pic is filmed on location in Arkansas, there's an earthy docu style feel to the tale - even if as a history lesson it's hokey at best.

    Not everybody's idea of enjoyment but from that chilling opening to the blood and thunder of the finale, Bloody Mama holds court with shifty glee. 7.5/10

    Bloody Mama is the story of Ma Baker and her hillbilly sons. the lady and her sons are legend amongst Americas gangster era. but, to me this film I found was very dull and boring. for a start Shelly winters turns this story into a draft up front comedy the actors who play her twisted sons a young Robert DeNiro don't even give the film any learway. oh yes there's shoutings and drug taking nothing more then what's happening in the world today. this dvd I found unrelistic boring and I have yet to see a film made of Ma Baker that is really what she really was. this dvd is a cheap farce boring tale of comedy and boring acting and no class.

    Decent explotation movie, especially notable for an early performance by Robert De Niro. Don Stroud, Bruce Dern and Pat Hingle give strong performances. Shelly Winters is memorable as the title character.
    The case against this disc is technical. The sound quality is quite poor; this does detract from the overall enjoyment of the film. Also, there is no subtitle option. That was of greater annoyance that one might suspect.
    Overall-worthy explotation classic. They really don't make movies like this any more...

    This very nice spanish disc of the ROGER CORMAN 70S movie based on the life of MA BARKER and her boys.Made at the time to cash in of movies like BONNIE AND CLYDE etc but this was not the first time CORMAN made this kind of movie he made MACHINE GUN KELLY in the 50s BLOODY MAMA has a great cast that includes SHELLEY WINTERS DON STROUD BRUCE DERN and ROBERT DE NIRO..this movie has its fair amount of sex and drug use as well as blood in it.This is a movie only disc and is another spanish disc but plays in english and the col and sound is first class.Not every one likes this movie with its low budget and its showing its use of drugs etc remember this was made in the early 70s but i like this movie one surprise i had i saw the trailer for this movie a few months ago that says this is a comedy from ROGER CORMAN i dont no were they got that from as this movie may be many things but a comedy it is not by the way the trailer is not on the disc.So if you enjoy this movie get this disc you wont see it much better than this and what a great price
