    Je veux dire par là que, très vite, par la magie du jeu et de la sensibilité de Maria Joao Pires, on l'oublie, elle, et tout à coup, c'est Mozart lui-même qui est assis dans votre salon en train de jouer ses pièces, et de ne les jouer que pour vous. Enfin... à se demander si Mozart jouait les sonates autrement que de cette manière-là...
    D'une interprétation toute différente de Friedrich Gulda, - magnifique aussi et un peu plus musclée, mais sans exagération ni vulgarité -, c'est l'esprit même de Mozart qui veille sur Maria Joao Pires dans toute cette intégrale. De même, Maria parle secrètement avec Mozart, dans toutes ses nuances, ses perceptions fines des variations d'humeur. Avec une technique telle que parfois on ne sait même pas comment elle arrive à produire des sons aussi fluides, aussi souples, aussi justes, aussi chargés d'émotion et surtout, sans aucune mièvrerie écœurante. On ne s'en lasse pas.

    Per le sonate di Mozart ci sono molte meno belle integrali rispetto, per esempio, a quelle di Beethoven, dove c'è l'imbarazzo della scelta..
    Tra le Integrali più note, eseguite al fortepiano o al pianoforte, antiche o moderne che esse siano, possiamo citare : Walter Gieseking (EMI), Daniel Barenboim (EMI-Warner Classic), Alicia de Larrocha (RCA), Ronald Brautigam, fortepiano (BIS), Glenn Gould (CBS-Sony), Claudio Arrau (Philips-Decca), Malcolm Bilson, fortepiano (Hungaroton), Christian Zacharias (EMI), Bart van Oort, fortepiano (Brilliant Classic), Ingrid Haebler (Denon Japan Import), Mitsuko Uchida (Philips-Decca), Andras Schiff (Decca), Maria Joao Pires (Denon-Brilliant Classic), Maria Joao Pires (Deutsche Grammophon)
    Un'integrale o quasi...come somma di cd singoli è stata realizzata da Brendel, già grande interprete del concerti per pianoforte e orchestra e ottimo solista nelle sonate, mentre Murray Perahia, altro grande pianista “mozartiano”, oltre alla splendida integrale dei concerti per piano, ha inciso solo alcune sonate per la Sony.
    Tra tutte le integrali citate, la migliore, che, per freschezza, delicatezza, levità, raffinatezza, tocco e cura del timbro e del dettaglio, incarna alla perfezione lo spirito mozartiano è, per me, questa integrale di Maria Joao Pires per la DG. In verità, bisogna dire che la suddetta pianista aveva già registrato, giovanissima, un’altra integrale per la Denon, riproposta a prezzo stracciato dalla Brilliant , ma questa edita per la DG, sinceramente mi pare più matura, centrata e raffinata..
    Le letture della Pires sono mozartianamente lievi, delicate, cristalline e raffinate.
