Yet another 1970s compilation but this one is more comprehensive than mostand contains some rare grooves that are worth owning. It has some greatcatchy pop tunes like Sugar Baby Love by The Rubettes, Chirpy Chirpy CheepCheep by Mac and Katie Kissoon (the bigger hit version was by Middle OfThe Road), Indiana Wants Me by R Dean Taylor and Son Of My Father, anearly synth-pop ditty by Chicory Tip. There are great ballads likeBeautiful Sunday, the classic song I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing byNew Seekers and I'd Love You To Want Me by Lobo. Most of these were indeedgreat hits, like the worldwide smash In The Summertime, Rock Your Baby andWitch Queen Of New Orleans by Redbone which did especially well in the UK.The tracks are drawn overwhelmingly from the early years of the decade.That explains the absence of any real disco hits. As a sampler of theearly 70s, the album is good value for value.
