Anschlieaend an den ersten Band ueber die Fruehindustrialisierung wird im vorliegenden Buch mit dem Konzept der regionalen Industrialisierung die Entstehung und der langfristige Strukturwandel der Saarindustrie fuer die zweite Halfte des 19. Jahrhunderts dargestellt, wobei die marktwirtschaftliche und technologische Entwicklung der einzelnen Industriebranchen und Unternehmen im Vordergrund der Untersuchung steht. Nach 1850 setzte in der Region bis etwa 1870 ein extrem hohes Wachstum ein, das aufgrund der optimalen Standortbedingungen bis in die fruehen 1870er Jahren anhielt und zu nie wieder erreichten Ausdehnung des Absatzraumes sowie der Marktanteile fuehrte. In der folgenden Zeit bis zum Ersten Weltkrieg konnte die Saarindustrie ihre Marktstellung als eines der vier groaen Montanreviere des Deutschen Reiches trotz stagnierender oder leicht sinkender Marktanteile mit einem weiterhin beachtlichen Wachstum behaupten, wobei die Eisenindustrie den Steinkohlenbergbau, der bis in die siebziger Jahre eindeutig den regionalen Fuehrungssektor gebildet hatte, nach 1890 als Wachstumsmotor in der Region abloste.
