    Good set for the price
My husband bought the drum set for me and I am very new to drumming but the set seems like a good set for the price, the cymbals don't sound right but eventually I will buy a better set and still have less money involved than if I had bought a drum set at our local music store.

I was very skeptical of this drum set - for the money I paid. But Wow! Hard to believe they could make it and sell it, with profit, for such a good price. It is just for my 10 year old. His first drum set. Yes, it does not sound like a true professional set with Ziljians and such... but it still makes great noise. For 'sound', I'd give the snare and the three toms an A. They are very 'tunable'. The high hat cymbal a B. The base drum a C,. I haven't tried to tune the bass yet though. I can probably make its sound better. But the crash cymbal? It gets an F. You'll want to buy a used good crash cymbal off ebay or something - to replace the tin pan lid that comes with this set. But that is a minor detail. If it came with no crash cymbal, I'd still give it 5 stars. Pretty nice quality, great looking! - but most of all a great value. Oh... and if you have a 10 year old playing it?... buy yourself some ear muffs from Amazon at the same time you order the drum set!

I love my new drum set. the cymbals are not of great quality but I understand as the cymbals are the most expensive part of your drum set but for the price and entry level this drum set are very good, very OK. Add some cymbals of better quality (I added an 18" cymbal already) and your set becomes more "professional". In the case you are more advanced than a beginner then get something of higher quality of course. I understand the set limitations and I am OK with it. Great set and very recommended for beginners. The assembling instructions were missing but I did not have a problem putting the set together, I just needed to see the picture a couple of times. However the seller provided me with the instructions real quick even I did not request them but mentioned that they were missing when rating the seller. It seems that the set is sold out now.

Bought for my 6 year old son and 9 year old daughter for Xmas, so expectations weren't all that high. As it turned out, the Snare and toms sound surprisingly good after a little adjusting and fiddling. Toms tune well, don't ring, react very well to being hit hard and are the biggest surprise of all. Snare needs a lot of tweaking to get it going: adjust the strainer a little tighter and skin it tight and it's great. I may put a little batting in there to keep the ringing down.

Kick is what I expected - big and floppy and impossible to keep from sounding like it's got a broken skin. Old standby: pillows. Keep an assortment of pillows handy, and some packing tape (the reinforced type to stick on the inside behind where the mallet hits), Mess with it and it'll never be great but good enough for the kids. I may try a better skin, if I find one on sale.

Cymbals are complete, utter, unadulterated, total and massive doo doo. Like another reviewer said, if they didn't carry on with a shrill metallic fizzy blat for a few seconds I would be convinced they were made of shiny brass-colored plastic. Knew that was going to happen. Only option is replacing. Still - I got hardware for them, so there's that, and I can drill out the ride and make it a sizzler later. I might note the hat sounds not-completely terrible closed, so there's that, for what it's worth. This is the only reason this is a 4 instead of 5 star review.

I might also note I won't be running out for a set of Zildjians any time soon...let's see if the kids take to it. My son is a little Keith Moon Freakazoid with a fairly steady 4/4 beat going after only a few weeks, and his, um, "solos" are just like Neil Peart, if Neil Peart was six, autistic, and completely sucked but enjoyed it anyway. So proud.

Throne is pretty cheap, and I am concerned it may not last, but so far it's steady.

Yes, I lost the key within a week. Haven't owned a drum key in years. Better make the investment and buy in bulk.

Side story: I remember some kids I knew learning violin back when I was in school. Their folks get them some crappy rental, and after enough blood came from their fingertips and hours spent trying to keep it tuned they'd just quit. This set is way more than good enough for learning, and I don't see my kids quitting for the "junk" factor.

Note: Musicians Discount Warehouse, the seller, ships this in two boxes. They're big and heavy, and packaging is pretty loose. I was surprised there was no damage at all.

Anyway I built the thing after the kids went to bed on Christmas eve (builds just like Pearls and Tamas and Slingerlands, for the most part) and discovered I was missing a tension lug for the kick drum. Christmas day, I sent an email to Musicians Discount Warehouse. They responded that afternoon. Christmas day. They responded. Box wad of amazingfulness, there. They sent replacement lugs (I only needed one) and a free set of nylon tipped 5A drum sticks for the inconvenience. This is my callout to them: to respond to a customer issue on Christmas Saturday, and have replacements to me by the following Wednesday is, clearly, too awesome. Musicians Discount Warehouse rocks. True story.

After reading recommendations on starter drum sets and the reviews on this Gammon set, I decided to buy it for my 8 year-old son as a less expensive way to introduce him to drumming. The sound quality is great for the price and it's great that you get everything a person needs to start drumming. The only down-side is that the cymbles don't sound all that great, but they do their job considering they were included in the low price.

Cymbals are less than useless. .. The set had some hardware issues but after getting it together seems to be suitable for the price. I do not think it should be advertised as cymbals included.

Bought this set for my 8year old son as a Christmas gift. I will say that I am not disappointed to say the least. The color was exactly shown. It included everything to get him started. It took my husband about an hour or less to build since we were not familiar with drum sets. The DVD instructions that were included was very helpful and easy for him to follow along. Needless to say, it made my sons Christmas and I would highly recommend purchasing from them. I received the box within days to spare before Christmas.
