This third edition of American Cultural Studies has been updated throughout to take into account the developments of the last six years, providing an introduction to the central themes in modern American culture and explores how these themes can be interpreted.

        • up-to-date case-studies, such as The Wire and Nurse Jackie,

I really enjoy this book. It has useful information and good insights about American Culture. I have only used it for a class in college but I am pleased with it.

I had to buy this for my introductory American History course at uni, and though it was a bit of a pain, there was always something interesting whenever we had a required reading.

American Cultural Studies written by a couple of British professors. The book could be so awesome, the material has so much potential. Unfortunately, the word choices these guys make could be more interesting - I feel like they use the biggest most archaic words they can as often as possible. There is typically only 1-2 paragraphs per page making for horrible use of white space that is intimidating to read. Constant quotations and citations make the reading even messier.

This is an exploration of various aspects of US life that acknowledges that it seeks to examine American history from the new perspective. That being in the last 20 or 30 years history seen simply as the story of the elite class is not sufficient. There is a fair amount of jargon but wading past it does provide some good basic insights.
