Once again, the highest praise for Rhino Records. This box set, while pricey, is worth every dime. There is no place to find this much classic music in any one (or two or ten) disc package.
These discs have a great range, from the finger popping rhythms of The Turban's "When You Dance" (which according to the extensive liner notes was the first recording of the background sound which gave the genre the name "doo wop"), and the Cadillac's "Speedo" to the Marcell's classic "Blue Moon". Of course, the many tributes to love are well represented too, with The Five Keys "Glory of Love", The Five Satin's "In The Still of the Night", and my personal favorite of this style, The Flamingoes timeless "Lover's Never Say Goodbye".
Aside from these all well known gems, it is also a repository of some lesser publicized classics wonderfully interspersed with those songs now the staples of many oldies stations. It is also the only place I am aware of with the greatest named doo-wop group of all time: Vito and the Salutations, and their inimitable (and seldom heard) rendition of "Unchained Melody". It is so different from the Righteous Brothers and a wonderful piece of music.
I grew up in New York listening to this music first on the corner and then on the radio. It brings back wonderful memories of warm summer nights, and the talented (and not so-talented) guys harmonizing on the streets.

Having the good fortune to be born in the mid-40's, this music is as natural as breathing to me and my friends. Our radios and our 45's with the "original artists" was the life blood of our generation and it was those voices we danced to, and those voices we invited into our hearts while we fell in love, went steady, broke up and cried ourselves to sleep. Those voices and this incredible music got us through all those years of growing up ... and then some. Remember your "First Love and Your Song?" It's all here! This collection from Rhino Records is awesome in that it brings back those "original artists" and includes songs that are cornerstones of this genre, i.e, "Earth Angel," "Sincerely," "In Tne Still Of The Night," "Come Go With Me," but it also includes less well known songs that you generally won't find on other collections, i.e., "Tear Drops," "Don't Ask Me To Be Lonely," "Little Star," "My True Story," "I'm So Young," to name just a few. The quality and clarity of the music is truly exceptional. The entire collection ... the music, the packaging, and the extensive info included in the 78-page book about the artists, the music, the years of Doo Wop history, and the great pictures that finally put faces to the music is priceless! Some things can't be bought ... memories being one ... but this collection brings you the irreplaceable music of an irreplaceable time and you get the memories for free! How cool is that? By the way, Doo Wop Collection #2 also from Rhino is on its way to me as of this writing!

Doo Wop - A very special form of music that visited us briefly for a little over a decade during the fifties and sixties - a period of innocence and common sense that survived without Cds, Facebook, U-Tube, Internet, Cell Phones, Tweets, or XM Radio. A period that gave birth to Rock n' Roll and Rhythm and Blues with simple love story music that featured th marvelous harmony of the human voice rather than the crude, aurally rude electronics and synthesizers.

The remastered "Dusty Disc" classics from Rhino in Doo Wop box No. 1 captures the purest essence of this beautiful, unique music form in a way that enhances the listening experience far beyond the music I recall listening to from a static plagued AM radio while cruising in my father's '57 Chev two door hard top.

Listen closely to the Flamingoes, the Spaniels, and the Dells - mere kids from inner city street corners around America - as they harmonize their young hearts out to an America filled with pride, patriotism, and the American Way vocalizing their dreams and desires to a mixed generation of teens, including teenage girls who defied their parents and elders to swoon to Elvis and listen to "sinful" Black music.

If you want to know the true origin of today's pop music - even the birth of Rap is represented in the Doo Wop box in a few selections performed in a format that the Black community called "Signifying" - get the Doo Wop box No. 1, crank up your car stereo, windows down, and cruise.

This was the best collection of music from 1948-1987. It brings back memories of the vocal groups we have maybe forgotten their names but the music we can remember. My favorite era for this music was 1955-57. All of us remember the strong emotions of some love we had at the time when we listen to Why Do Fools Fall in Love or Devil or Angel. I am so thankful that some company or group of people are preserving this music. I even listen to it with my grandchildren and they can sing some of the words a musical hertiage to pass on.

I bought this because of all the 5 star reviews... and I am so disappointed and am glad I opted for buying a set that was still expensive as none of the offerings were inexpensive... but not the most expensive! As it is a waste of money for me!

In my estimation - the first 2 discs are worthless... old old songs... never ever heard them and they sound very old! Is that Doo Wop who would know?

Finally in the 3rd Disc there were one or two songs that I recognized in between a dozen that still sounded Old and I never heard of.
And so it went through the collection ... I hate having to listen to several Bad songs to hear one good one and then I also noticed that the good ones were cut short!

Also, the sound, was not good and sounded like it was taped off of old records...

5.0 out of 5 stars 究極のDOOWOP集
