Love all the HTTYD series so far. I'm an adult who loves fantasy, but I'm not usually fond of modern animation, but this is beautiful. the relationships between the characters and their dragons make this series, in my opinion. I also find the moral compass of the whole franchise to be refreshing. It's truly good vs. evil, but with characters who are real human beings, with real motivations or quirks which make their actions make sense most of the time. Every sort of person is portrayed here, but I think the real hero has to be Hiccup, who's selflessness, understanding, humanity and peaceful nature I find heartwarming and lovely. It's also great to have a hero with a "disability," who is treated as just another person by everyone. You rarely think about the fact that he's lost a leg, frankly, and no one treats him differently because of it. There's something to be said for that, considering how our society treats anyone who has such a difference. (I'm in a wheelchair, so I have first hand experience with this.) They also don't make his life easy with this problem, and they continue to show how the lack of a leg affects his daily life; though they could probably go into what it must be like to deal with these kinds of things a little more; he has it a bit too easy for it to be entirely realistic. Most of the problems he encounters because of the missing leg are during flight, for example, when I'm sure that the everyday must be a little more challenging. In any case, beyond this unusual story point, the rest of it is a wonderful, heart warming series that continues the story of the first film faithfully. The quality of the animation and the sroies is exemplary, as well. You won't be disappointed with any of the series that have followed the film; including the one on Netflix; The Eye of the Dragon, I think it's called. This from an adult and a HTTYD convert.

The animated series "Dreamworks Dragons: Riders of Berk" faithfully continues the story line begun in the feature film "How to Train Your Dragon". As with many animated productions, the program appeals to young people, but much of the dialogue is in the adult idiom. In particular, the story continues the adventures of a group of 6 adolescents in a fantasy (with some historical context of what life must have been in a Viking village), but facing typical adolescent issues. These adventures inevitably involve the kids' interactions with some adults of the village. Several wholesome themes are developed in these stories: integrity, compassion, problem-solving, compromise, social skills, and probably a host of others. As in the feature film, violent scenes are depicted, and some mild vulgarity appears as is typical among adolescent peers. These do not detract from a generally uplifting message for youth and adult alike. The very young might be entertailed by the animated action, but may not grasp the significance of certain decisions the kids in the story make, nor their potential consequences, perhaps much less the allusions to stereotypical adolescent behavior. The young Viking hero (Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III) is not without his own imperfections, and it is important to him to accept, confront, and adapt these, and pursuade his friends and fellow villagers alike, to do likewise. The dragons, of course, are characters essential to the story-line, and themselves show many endearing characteristics, much like family pets who behave more like partners in problem-solving. The series has much to recommend it for viewers of all ages. For first-time viewers it is not recommended that the series' on-line wiki be consulted, because of the numerous spoilers. It will be sad when the series, now in its second season, finally goes out of production.

I have purchased all the “Dragons: Defenders of Berk” and “Dragons: Riders of Berk” TV series from Amazon and not all episodes contain closed-captioning as noted in their description. As a hearing-impaired individual I rely on captioning to avoid playing shows at full volume. After purchasing I found out the issues in the shows as shown in my Fire TV app or on my iPad, but when I watched them on Hulu or Peacock every episode had captioning.

Update: The Amazon Video site now shows the episodes as not having closed captions, but in fact some of them do. Even stranger the downloaded videos to my iPad all have captions. After repeated calls to Amazon support I finally gave up trying to get it resolved. If you rely on closed captioning be sure to try all episodes on your devices first.

Hands down, one of my favorite kids shows...ever. And that's saying a lot...as I said in the title, I've got three kids, and over the years I've seen pretty much everything there is for kids to watch. If you like the "How to Train Your Dragon" movies, you'll love these. There's enough episodes that they have the time to explore all of the characters (and their dragons) much more in-depth than they ever could in a movie (and yes, I just said that about a computer generated kids cartoon). The animation gets better and better as the show progresses, until it's at least as good as the first movie. The series has a nice mix of action (that's not so scary I wouldn't let my 4 (now 5) year old watch it, and it humor--some of which is only going to be funny to adults which is a nice nod to the fact that grownups will be watching too. Ruff Nut and Tuff Nut always crack me up lol.
Anyway, it's a great series that the whole family can enjoy. I almost never give five stars to anything...but I gave it this show.

I'm a huge How to Train Your Dragon fanboy, so naturally I picked this up along with the entire series on top of it. I enjoyed this a great deal and it's just as fun and cleverly written as the movie was. The animation isn't quite up to par with the movie but that's to be expected from a TV series. All-in-all I think it was definitely worth the purchase, whether or not you should spend the money on the entire series is a question you really have to ask yourself, but if you're a hardcore fan of the movie then you have no reason not to own this.

How To Train Your Dragon is one of my favourite movies - animated or not - and Riders of Berk lives up to everything that I love about the movie - great characters, witty dialogue, and enchanting visuals. The animation isn't *quite* at par with the movie, but that's to be expected since animators have considerably less time to put an episode together than a feature film.

I believe there are 11 episodes in Part 1 and I know several people who love this show, from age 3 through 30! Great fun for the whole family.
