Her Deadly Promise: Detective Gina Harte, Book 12
Audible Audiobook
– Unabridged
Four-year-old Kayden has been sitting alone on the little patch of tired grass outside his house for hours. His cheeks are wet with tears as he waits for his mother’s warm embrace. But she’ll never arrive to pick up her darling boy. She’ll never be seen again....
Church Road is a quiet corner of suburbia where happy families play in the local park and neighbors smile as they pass in the street. But behind the bright red door of number eight lies the body ofBillie Reeves, a young mum who just took her last breath.
Serena is Billie’s sister. When she found out her boyfriend had been obsessively calling Billie, she’d all but cut her from her life. But not before vowing she would make Billie pay for ruining her relationship....
Shaun is Billie’s ex-boyfriend. He left her the moment she fell pregnant. When he turned up at Billie’s door, demanding to see Kayden, she refused to take the risk of him hurting her precious son. He’ll do whatever it takes to get his little boy back....
Nadia is Billie’s best friend. Their kids attended the same school, and Billie often opened up to Nadia about her struggles as a single mother. She knows Billie’s deepest, darkest secret. She promised never to tell, but that was before the argument....
When police investigate the quiet little street, they discover everyone was whispering about Billie’s late-night callers. What was going on behind the closed door of Billie’s small home? And if someone was prepared to kill her, what do they know, and who will be next?
Fans of Angela Marsons, Cara Hunter, and Clare Mackintosh will love Her Deadly Promise–a completely gripping crime thriller that will have you hooked!

- Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2022This was a very exciting, faced paced book. It will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2022I really liked all the twists and turns in this book. Disappointed on the path author has chosen for Gina Harte as looking for some happy endings/joy for her. The last two books had sudden and shocking shift I did not care for- had hoped for a different path.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2023Now, I know that HER DEADLY PROMISE by Carla Kovach is the twelfth Gina Harte novel but she’s new to me and I love her. She's a cop with a lot of heart, sympathy, empathy and hot flashes (poor thing). AND she’s having relationship problems.
When Billie Reeves is murdered, her close-knit group of friends all seem to be hiding secrets. Billie’s secret is out however; she’s been selling her body to make ends meet and be a single mom to her son Kayden. Nadia’s marriage is falling apart at the seams, Candice just wants to get her dog grooming business off the ground and Meera simply wants to continue her affairs in peace. And don’t count out the husbands…they all seem to be deep in the mire too!
As Gina Harte investigates Billie’s brutal murder (while her 5 year old is outside playing!?) there is no shortage of suspects; between the men she um..services, random strangers and Kayden’s father showing up now, after being completely absent for the last 5 years. Oh yeah, and did I tell you that Billie has been seriously dating her sister’s boyfriend? Could SHE be mad and hurt enough to kill Billie? The suspect list seems to know no bounds.
When one of the other women goes missing, it’s an all out race to find her before it’s too late.
EVERY time I thought I had this one all figured out there was another twist that I didn’t see coming which turned my certainty on its head. The quick serpentine turns in this one left my neck hurting from whiplash. The best kind of book! Gina Harte and I will certainly discuss her previous eleven cases and I hope to see her around for a very long time.
I received a free copy of this book for an honest review which I am leaving voluntarily.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2022Four-year-old Kayden has just lost his mother. DI Gina Harte is on the case and is determined to discover the murderer of the victim, whose name was Billie. This case is particularly difficult for Gina, as Billie was leading a double life - a caring, responsible mother to her young son, and a life that revolved around sex. The more Gina learns about Billie, she finds that Billie may have had more than one enemy, and the list of suspects continues to grow.
Another reason this case is difficult for Gina is that she has a young boy in her life and that makes her strongly feel that she has to find justice for young Kayden. While it is difficult to interview a child, asking the right questions begins to make sense of why Billie might have been killed. However, the question is, will she be the only victim or will someone else soon be killed? If so, what would be the connection between the victims?
I have been reading this stellar series since book three and I have become very drawn to Gina‘s character. She had a difficult past herself, and sometimes that comes through while she is working on her different cases. What I love about this latest book is how tense it is. How well written it is. How compelling it is. I love it when a series never loses its steam this far along.
This is the type of police procedural that will keep you on your toes. It certainly kept me invested from beginning to end in one sitting because of how addictive it was when you consider how talented the author, Carla Kovach, is. She has done a great job with this latest book in this incredible series and I am truly looking forward to reading the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2022When a young single mother with a dark secret is murdered, it's up to DI Gina Harte and her team to find the killer. It is the twelfth book in the Detective Gina Harte series, but the first I've read. I had no problems connecting with Gina and other members of her team, especially DC Paula Wyre.
I really enjoyed the author's style of writing. Many of the chapters are told from Detective Harte's point-of-view and those chapters read like a police procedural novel. The other chapters are told from the various witnesses and suspects and those chapters are more like a domestic drama. There are friends, lovers, secrets, betrayals, and some pretty despicable characters in the book, but plenty to like about the story. Gina has her own drama since her boss is also her ex-boyfriend, but she tries to keep her personal life separate from the job as best as she can. I like the way Gina and her team keep with it to separate the truth from the lies in order to solve the case. The book gets off to a great start and there are few different plot twists as the story progresses, I admit to experiencing some confusion in the middle part of the book. However, things get better again and the ending of this suspenseful novel is unexpected. I would definitely read further books in this series.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advance copy of this ebook. It was provided to me at no cost, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gina Harte
Novamente a autora acertou.

5.0 out of 5 stars Edge of my seat"
It started in the plane! Lady next to me took an interest and took a photo of the cover. I was obsessed to read the whole book from start to finish whilst on holiday! Thoroughly enjoyed it and kept me guessing all the way through, when the clue was right under my nose all along!! A gripping thriller, I was so keen to find out more each day (with no disturbance). I just wanted to read this book. Carla, you did not let me down. What a story.
I certainly know the lady in the plane will not be disappointed when she orders her copy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hiding in plain sight
Just when you think you know, you don’t! A great detective/psychological that will have you presuming, assuming, knowing and wrong, wrong and wrong again. Then you’re hit with the one twist you never thought about. Well worth a day to read that’s all you need as each chapter ends and you read the next. Top notch highly recommended
