Sometimes when I just want to bait my ego and need to get one step closer to effusive coffee freshness Nirvana, and have an extra two minutes, I'll grind my secret stash of Espresso beans. Grinding them also means cleaning the grinder afterwards, which takes a few more minutes. Can I really tell the difference? Only my ego knows!
The grinder itself is very simple to use, and consistently delivers a finely-ground and flour-smooth dose of an aromatic caffeine-ladened ration of temporary loquacity and jitters, once brewed and consumed.
For me, the capacity of this grinder leans much more toward a single-serve, rather than a double. Fewer beans are easier to manually grind, and the product is much more consistent as long as you grind the beans for at least thirty seconds. With that said, if you want more capacity, you might want to consider something larger that is battery or AC operated.
The crank does not affix to the rotor; rather it just rests around the top of the rotor like a wrench on a nut. When not in use, there is a slot on the silicon base that the wrench-end can be inserted into, which makes this more compact, less likely to lose (the crank), and I guess portable.
The unnecessary: Ok, it's portable. Big deal! What am I supposed to do with this portability? Fill the grinder with beans and then take it over to a buddy's house whom happens to have Espresso machine? "Here, let me grind this up - I want my superior beans / if there's enough, I'll share it."
I like this grinder! It does exactly what I want it to do, (and usually on the weekends!). If you want to treat yourself to that higher level of coffee-buzzzzzz, and don't mind doing it manually, I recommend this product.

I ordered this manual grinder to grind coffee or espresso beans for one cup or when the electricity fails. I have a gas stove so I am able to make espresso or heat water for a French Press cup of coffee. This bean or spice grinder grinds a slightly coarse ground, you may need to grind a second time if you need a finer grind. I found the first grind to be perfectly fine for coffee and espresso. I haven’t tried it on spices, because I buy them already ground.
The unit assembles quickly. The grinder handle can be kept on or stored in the rubber-like plastic base. The base has some suction to adhere it to the counter. I have a granite counter top, although the grinder didn’t move around, because I was holding it, as I ground the beans it didn’t stay stuck to my granite. It wobbled some in my hand. I thought it might be nice to have some silicone on the hard plastic to give me a better grip or maybe a wider base. I dropped one star for lack of stability, but otherwise the grinder works well, is a pleasing design, can be rinsed between grinds, but requires a mini brush to clean the grinding gears, and is portable. It would have been nice if a tiny cleaning brush was included, but it is not necessary to clean the grinder after every use, so I have time to order one. The metal parts are stainless steel so no fear of rusting. It is easy to see the level of whole beans as well as the level of grind. All materials used to make the grinder are food-grade. I think this is a very handy grinder to have.
