As friend even uses it to ease the facial pain of episodes of tic douloureux. Slight scent of menthol that quickly disappears as the lotion dries on the skin in a clear undetectable layer. In general, if it hurts and the skin's not broken, it will help and will often completely eliminate the pain. I really can't say enough good things about this product! This is a staple in our medicine cabinets.

I was looking for something to relieve foot blisters. I'm going on a long hike. I tested 4 Lidocaine creams on my arm. IcyHot, Alpharma, Aspercream, and CVS, then did a poke and scrape test.I did not notice a significant difference in pain relief. None really made the skin numb, more of a soothing effect. The IcyHot had the distinctive Menthol smell and cool feel.None are really what I'd call a cream, more of a gel. The Alpharma had a different consistency to the other 3, and took much longer to dry. Not sure if that is good or bad. Alpharma comes in a tube, the others in bottles.I will take the Alpharma with me, and a little of the IcyHot in a smaller bottle. We'll see how they work in the field...
