Amigurumi Easter Egg Bunny

What came first the Easter Egg or the Bunny? I know the answer! It was the egg :) I used this plastic Easter Egg as the basic shape that I wanted to make my bunny and the rest just evolved from there!

Hooks and Yarns!
The regular bunnies were crocheted with a 3.75mm hook and Red Heart Super Saver yarn of different colors. I used comfort yarn as well.

To get the tiny bunny that fits inside the Easter egg, I used a 2.5mm steel hook with Red Heart Comfort yarn - Beige. I find different colors will give a slightly different gauge and I might of lucked out with this color to make it fit so perfectly in the egg so keep in mind that I can not guarantee your tiny bunny will fit inside those plastic eggs with the hook size I used. Try a smaller hook if it doesn't work out or a lighter weight yarn

Eyes, Nose and Mouth:
I glued the eyes (4.5mm) in with fabric tac (tacky glue works too) after the ears were sewed in place, I find that easier. But if you want to use the washers of the safety eyes then make sure to put them in before closing up the head. You don't need to use safety eyes you could also paint them on as I did for the yellow bunny below. Use a pointed object like a pencil or a pin to dot the eyes in and once the paint is dry dot on another coat and repeat until you are happy with the look. Once done and paint is dry clip any stray strands away. You could also use felt, buttons, beads or yarn. I have a tutorial that shows how to install buttons after the doll has been closed up and this method would also work if you use beads. View that video here

Whip stitch in a mouth and nose with thread or embroidery thread or yarn. I also think they are just as cute without a face but the choice is yours and there's many things you could do with the face.
When done stitching in the nose or mouth then bring both thread tails out a stitch hole away from the face, knot the tails off and hide them inside the bunny

Abbreviation Chart:
st = stitch
sc = single crochet
2tog = 2 stitches together
sl st = slip stitch
f/o = finish off

Magic ring:
Many parts of this amigurumi begin with a magic ring. I have 2 short video tutorials that will show you 2 different methods of making a magic ring. Use the one that is
easiest for you. View 1st method here and 2nd method here.

How to read the rows:
Add a maker at the end of row 2 and move that marker each time you finish a row. Each row has a sequence. Example: 1sc then 2sc in next st means repeat that sequence 1sc then 2sc in next st followed by 1sc then 2sc in next st over and over to the end of that row. When you land on the marker you should be putting in 2sc. The number inside the parentheses ( ~ ) is the number of stitches you should have at the end of that particular row.

Bunny: with color of your choice
1) magic circle with 6sc (6)
2) 2sc in each st (12)
3) 1sc then 2sc in next st (18)
4) 1sc in next 2st then 2sc in next st (24)
5-6) 1sc in each st for 2 rows
7) 1sc in next 2st then 2tog (18)
8-9) 1sc in each st for 2 rows
10) 1sc in next 7st then 2tog (16)
11) 1sc in next 6st then 2tog (14)
12) 1sc in next 5st then 2tog (12)
start stuffing the bunny. Stuff it full and firm, shape the bunny as you stuff.
13) 1sc the 2tog (8)
stuff more as needed. Make sure you are going to be happy with how the head looks before finishing off this row.
14) 2tog twice then f/o leaving a long tail for sewing. Using a yarn needle, neatly weave in and out of the remaining stitches, pull tight to close the gap and neatly knot off then hide the yarn tail inside the body.

Ears: make 2
1) ch7
2) 1sc across the chain then continue around the other side into the outer loops (12) *work the the starting yarn tail into the row once you start the other side of the chain. Arrows below are pointing to the outer loops of the other side of the chain.
3) 2sc in next 2st, 1sc in next 8st, 2sc in next 2st (16)
4) You will only use up a few stitches of this row. 1sc in next 3st, sl st next st and f/o leaving a long tail for sewing then weave the yarn tail in and out the next few stitches along the one side of the ear, knot it off at the bottom. You can put 1sc in each st to the bottom of the ear then f/o but it does make the ear more "cupped".. so it's up to you.
The distance between the ears is up to you. In the photos above I sewed the ears together then sewed them to the body. The bunny below has a bit of a distance between the ears. It looks good either way I think.

The front edge of the bottom of the ear gets sewn to the 10th row of the body. I put in about 2 or 3 whip stitches around the front edge of the ear to the 10 row then bring the yarn tail through the back of the ear and right down through the bunny and out. Then back up through the bunny and through the bottom of the ear. Back down again and out. Once the 2nd ear is sewn in then knot of the 2 yarn tails and hide them in the body

Tail: with white make a pom pom or you could buy a pre-made pom pom too! But I do have a video tutorial on how to make a pom pom with your fingers and it's pretty easy so check out the video right here. I wrapped my fingers about 50 times to make the pom poms for the bunny in this pattern. And make sure to have a good length yarn tail to sew the pom pom to your bunny.

To make a larger or Fluffy Bunny from this same pattern:
The fuzzy grey bunny was crocheted with a 5.00mm hook while holding 2 strands of yarn together. One Red Heart worsted weight medium #4 in grey and one strand of Red Heart Foxy yarn in grey.

The fluffy white bunny also was crocheted with a 5.00mm hook while holding 2 strands of yarn together. One Red Heart worsted weight medium #4 in white and one strand of Eye Lash yarn (I believe it is Red Heart as well but I lost the packaging)

These larger bunnies do tend to roll about more and you can fix that by adding feet.
Feet for Fuzzy Bunnies: make 2 with one strand of worsted weight yarn and a 3.75mm hook

1) magic circle with 6sc (6)
2) 1sc then 2sc in next st (9)
3) 1sc in each st
sl st next st and f/o leaving a long tail for sewing. You can leave them un-stuffed and sew them side by side under the head as pictured below
